hi there, I've been running my 97 Terrano for some 5 years or so and recently purchased a 2001 2.7 to replace it. i have since found that the new one was bubbling in the header tank. I have changed the thermostat and radiator and finally replaced the head gasket. Unfortunately when I put it back together today it still boils in the header tank! I have took of the head again and can see no visible cracks or blow marks. I have 2 questions if anyone can supply any advice,
1. Has anyone heard of any problems regarding porous blocks that could cause this problem.
2. If I was to fit a second hand engine from the same year vehicle what would have to be swapped to enable it to start - ie immobiliser? pump chip?

Cheers guys

hi there thanks for that, temp running fine, just empties radiator into header tank leading more towards head gasket i thought?

Thought it it could be,Mine was doing that last year(Bubbling back into header/not overheating though) changed the sensor cured it.

tried the rad cap, thanks anyway.
Regarding the sensor, can anyone enlighten me on how the sensor can stop the system being pressurised ?

no wrong track there, cracked head or block, most likely head and difficult to spot if at all with the naked eye, block problems usually lead to milky engine oil but not always, re swapping engines = no problems as the pump is not coded as far as I am aware, rayf is your man for reliable info re this, I am just no so familiar with after 99 motors, I do have a head, only fault with it is No 3 glow plug is broken off, have yet to take it to the machine shop to see if it is recoverable, Rick

Thanks for that, I will have to get the head pressure tested and go from there. Worse case I will have to change engines (I have a spare yr 2000 SE for spares!!)

Oh Dear, good luck with it mate

As said should just be a straight swap

Even if it does go wrong you have the ECU, Immobiliser, Ignition and Keys.

seems like a lot of work been done but not the basics.
head off, pressure test and skimmed to be sure.or straight edged with feelers.
saves a lot of time.
