no

keep the 2.7

engins go bang ive been told

You are talking about early 3.0 Patrols, problems sorted before it was planted in a Terrano.

2.7TDI is good but 3.0 is better, more power, MPG and less tractor like.

I've not heard anyone on here complain about 3.0ltr failure on a T2 other than pump failure

this is the second 3.0 i have had and both been great done lots of miles. no real issues. (touch wood).

3.0. pulls like a train used to pull at 1500wght caravan with kit in boot full and four of us in it and couldnt really tell any differance when it came to the hills.
also get a good 32 MPG and i dont drive it that easy.

Ask zippy as well it goes sideways nicely on gravel............

and yes the 3.0 in the Terrano is the updated engine from the Patrol that used to have the cylinder problems.

Ok while we are on engine size what bout early 2.7td not tdi :?:

What about it???

As for the 3litre if I could have found one at the right price I'd ahve had it, as it was a 2.7tdi came up and back then being an early 2000 it meant the tax was going to be cheap - but thats changed now.

Well what is to be gained by the tdi as appossed to the td :?:

How does 20bhp sound 8O

Sorry to upset early T2/Mav and Mistral owners, but the intercooler makes a massive difference.

anybody that says it doesn't should seek NHS help 8O

It has higher brake horse power but the intercooler causes more problems :?:  do we need the brake power if we drive as we should :?:

Of course we need power - otherwise we'd be driving nat' ap' landy diesels

Why do you say the interooler causes more problems - its only an air to air radiator, never heard of one giving any problems on a T2. Or do you mean the more modern fly by wire and MAF style angine manaememnt system - thats for emissions reasons you can fit an intercooler to a 2.7TD, theres some photos of one in the gallery.

Ok HB
More power comes from more cool air then
is that what your saying
hence inertcooler. this must put up the miles per gallon :?:

I have to say my td is good off road now   and on road
Does around 25-30 miles per gallon manual hubs have helped

Yes problems seem to be around the maf
So if you dont need it why have it thats all :?:

Yes more power comes from more/cooler air but it doesn't ave to be at the expense of fuel economy. Unlike petrol engines diesels don't have to run at lambda (about 1:14 fuel to air ratio for petrol) they spend most of their time running lean. the mor eair there is in the cylinder to expand wen a set amount of fuel is burned the higher the increase in cylinder pressure and the greater force exerted on the pistons - thus more torque which equals more power.

All more recent deisels have MAFs and are fly by wire etc this is so they can be more accurately fuelled, its like the differenc between carbeurettor and distributor and fully managed on a petrol. The full electronic system can apply the right amount of fuel at exactly the right time far more accurately than a mechanical system. A lot of this is done to satisfy the various emmisions requirememnts but it does also mean better mpg and more power/torque.

Thanks HB
Got it now
More air more power better mile per gallon
The mafs seem to have probs on here though :?:
My td seems to be up to the job around the smallholding now.
The manual hubs have helped .
lots of power towing without the intercooler have done loads of jobs on the fuel side though

not sure it will fit, also tdi has a hole in the bonnet..

ive heard of them fitted behind the front grill though

You can xetreme look in photo gallery

Thats where the intercooler is on cars.

A couple of years ago a few members looked into getting intercoolers, but the price was way to high..

The difference between a 3.0ltr T2 and an old 2.7TD is like night and day. Thats progress.

Wonder if they'll ever put the newer 2.5 form the Navara/Pathfinder in the Patrol as that is another step change. Before anyone shoots me down I know that engine has had issues 8O

My next T2 will be a 3L prob a van as by then the youngest should be old enough to drive so won't need the back seat
T2 2.7TDI & 3L specs

2.7TDI = MPG 28.8, CO2 260, BHP 125@3600, Torque(LB ft) 205@2000
3L = MPG 32.1, CO2 232, BHP 154@3600, Torque(LBft) 224@1600

Hope this helps 8)

My TII 3.0 litre is the business, lots of torque at low revs.
My mates Trooper 3.0 lt, can't catch it, his is 157bhp, compare to my 154 bhp
The early 3.0 patrols had a problem blowing holes in No3/4 pistons.
When I bought my TII 3.0, spoke to experienced Nissan mechanic, never heard of the terrano 3.0 having the same problem.
I got mine for a steal, been offered more than what I paid for it.
Just mounted my winch on it, need to wire it in.
If you can get one, go for the 3.0, I'm getting 32mpg, compare to 15-20mpg on my old 3.1td Trooper.
