Anyone got a guide on how often things should be cleaned, topped up, replaced, drained etc etc etc?

Wouldn't mind keeping a sheet in the car in the glove box of when things should be done on the motor, wan to keep on top of the Maverick.

I'm ashamed to say it but I just forgot about my focus to the point where the temperature was going through the roof because I had no coolant. :nono

The following tables show the normal maintenance schedule. Depending upon weather and atmospheric
conditions, varying road surfaces, individual driving habits and vehicle usage, additional or more frequent
maintenance may be required.
Periodic maintenance beyond the last period shown on the tables requires similar maintenance.

what he says.

if its any consolation, i havent serviced mine since I bought it 4 years ago, and its running pretty much sweet. Although I am servicing it next week coincedentally, but my point is, although yes, definately keep up to at least ONE major service a year, I wouldnt worry too much if you go over that schedule a tad...like me.....!

generally, filters twice a year including cabin filter if you have air con. Coolant i think once every year, although generally you change it twice a year for each major season-summer/winter. Oil, mileage dependent, but once a year should be ample for an old car like this, same with LSD oil-dont forget that. all the other oils, once a year IMO.Air filter, buy a K&N then forget about it for a long time, Fuel Filter-this is the important one, once a year at least, but as its so cheap and easy to do, twice will be very good for it. Clean the MAF also as part of the service.

ok, this isnt an official guide, just what I believe to be acceptable!:lol

Good to hear cheers :), what's LSD Oil? and how easy is it to do a full oil change on a Mav?

Limited Slip Diff, probably an overlooked item in a service, certainly by lazy garages. Anyway, the LSD i am talking about is the rear one and this should definately be renewed every few years, its a complex gear/clutch mechanism, and as such, needs good quality oil.

I havent done mine yet BUT, I have reviewed the job, and it looks easy enough. the fact that you could probably do most of it without even jacking the car up helps!

Engine oil change should be easy. Just empty the sump into a container (at least 8 ltr container), and access the OIL filter through the passenger front wing-remove the wheel, and peel back the arch liner and there it is. Fit new filter, replace sump plug and washer, and re fil oil, about 6 litres I think, just dont over fill, use the dip stick to gauge how close you are to MAX and make sure you are on level ground.

LSD oil change should be fairly straight forward. undo the filler plug FIRST (on top of the diff), if all ok, undo the lower plug and empty into a container (about 3 litres). Replace sump plug and washer, refill using correct grade LSD oil ONLY-may need a tube or something to aid filling if the bottle doesnt come with one. Replace plug and washer, and drive!

if you have done oil changes before on other cars-this should be easier. I have done some real awkward ones, and this looks much easier to do than most cars.

" if its any consolation, i havent serviced mine since I bought it 4 years ago, and its running pretty much sweet. " Shame on you Clivvy.

You don't need to remove the wheel to get at the oil filter, just full lock right hand down hand you can get you hand in , only one hand mine, also you may have to lift it out and drop it back via the bonnet depending on the filter, there seems to be two sizes. Regards. Bri

oh, nice one Bri, ill try that when I do mine!:thumb2

Ive had my mav for 6 years and 52,000 miles now. I change oil every 5k without fail as engine starts to sound a little rougher after 5k. Diesel oil is nackered after 5k let alone 10k its like water when i drain it. I have just started using a millers diesel oil and the engine is running really quiet now. Other than MOT work i have not had to do much else to the mav.
I have always changed filter leaning over LH wing although it is a pig to get back on as you cant see what your doing.

Wise words regarding the 2 different filter types, I have discovered this to at an inconvienient moment.:thumbs
