2.4 Petrol engine wanted

I am looking for a decent 2.4 petrol engine for my Terrano 2 SWB 1997.
The problem I have is that it just made it through the MOT emissions test but the mechcanic a friend of mine says it will not go through another. Apparently the engine is well worn (bottom end) with low compression in 2 cyclinders. A little hacked off as the truck is in spotless condition inside and out. I live in the SE Reading area but would travel for the right engine.:bow

Thanks for your post - could you please tell me how many miles the engine has done?
Also what are the cylinder compressions like?
