Now before everyone gets excited, I haven't brought a Patrol :lol I'm asking on behalf of a friend at work who is having a few issues with his truck and after chatting to him for a while, I told him i'd ask on here for him and he agreed that if we fix it between us he'll join the forum :thumbs

Basically he has a standard 1998 Patrol 2.8 GR TD, only changes he's made is to the butterfly valve and he's blanked the EGR valve.

When the truck is cold, it will randomly lose power and even dropping into 3rd gear he will only be able to get the truck to do 25mph maximum out the top of a fairly steep incline that he has to drive frequently.

When the truck is warm he never has any issues at all and the truck behaves as normal. Any ideas guys? :nenau

Only had my Y60 on the road i day but guess this is a a Y61 so ECU controlled, Rick

I wonder if he has low compression. Is it gradually getting worse? Block might expand slightly when hot sealing the gasket but when cold it could be losing compression.

Or worse, a cracked head, doing the same thing.

At the minute just a guess but i would get a compression check.

How did your pal get on with this problem?

Hope he sorted it and is joining the site :)
