I posted before Christmas describing how my engine had failed, I thought at the time through contaminated fuel, but found later that it was through loss of oil.
I have taken the cylinder head off and the bores are badly scored. pistons and piston heads still look ok, but it's hard to tell if big end and little end bearings have been damaged without stripping the engine down.

Engine started and ran but was very erratic, so it was hard to tell if there were any untoward noises.

I am trying to get a re-build or replacement engine but it seems that the pre 96 and post 98 engines are different to the one in my Maverick.

I got a copy of the workshop manual for the R20 and the configuration of the engine is as the TD27 section of the engine manual.

Can anyone tell me how this differs from the Pre 96 engine. Obviously the pre 96 doesn't have the intercooler, but could a pre 96 engine with some part replaced from my current engine be used as a replacement?

Alternatively, does anyone have a 96-98 Engine they would like to sell?

Cheers
Terry

Hi Not sure where you are but there are a few on ebay beeing broken. might have what you need

Zippy

The only change I am aware of is the earlier motors used a different diameter injector and glow plug, aside from the obvious TD / TDi (i.e. intercooler and fly by wire fuelling)

Try this one on ebay 150319687023

Cheap enough to buy the whole thing!

All you may be able to use from a TD is the short motor, that’s if the cylinder head with manifolds, will change over and the vacuum pump that is under the injection pump on a TDI will fit, probably more but cant think of any at the min. It would be far easier to fit the correct engine.
