hi well the old girl past the 179k yesterday.
went out this morning and 17 mile down the road loss of power ,juddering very strong smell of rubber.coasted into a gate way ,turned her off. opened bonnet smell of rubber BUT ALL LOOKED OK.
Re started and ok THEN POWER STEERING PUMP JAMMED UP SOLID.
BELT SLIPPING HENCE THE SMELL.
Took belt of started up OK. PUMP WOULD NOT TURN BACKWARDS AND JUDDERED WHEN TURNED FORWARDS.
PARTS GATE WAY HERE I COME.
IS THERE ANYTHING SPECIAL I NEED TO DO ON FITTING REPLACEMENT
RE BLEEDING THE SYSTEM.
TYPE OF OIL ECT.
MANY THANKS IN ADVANCE FOR THE HELP I KNOW IS GOING TO COME.

by the way you can still drive truck without power steering .BUT ITS VERY VERY HEAVY EVEN FOR ME.

Hi iandouglas :smile: I don't know if it helps but when I had to patch up my powersteering cooler pipes I filled the system back up with ATF fluid (think thats what it said in hand book) & filled the res bottle & worked the steering from side to side to remove the air out of the system. It does make a horrid sound at 1st but then shuts up once the fluid replaces the air :smile:

Have a look on ebay, sometimes see them on there.

As for fitting just bolt the new pump on fill reservoir with ATF and start engine, turn steering to an thro to get any air out, stop and recheck level.

hi quick update.
went on line put in a request with 24/7 and at 8.15 this morning had a chap phone me from DEWSBURY AUTO SALVAGE says he has one in stock for £40 plus vat. plus delivery £57. should be delivered tommorrow
ive had 8 quotes ranging from £58 to £90 .
new by the way is £387 plus vat.

well the replacement pump arrived today , it looks as if its only a couple of years old .
3/4 hr to swap and whahaaya power steering again,
