Guys i changed out the alternator on the mistral a while back for a new one from milners but the cars electrics are reading 15.8v i have a volt gauge in the car running off the fag lighter circuit is my new alternator likley to be at fault here or could there be anything else causing it?I have tried a new battery and checked the earth they all seem fine,i did notice that the battery terminals are pretty worn and they will just pull of they wont tighten properly on to the battery. Is my next step to try another alternator?Any help would be great as the car keeps blowing headlight bulbs and its getting expensive and dont want to damage anything else.

either that or the regulator has gone down, i take it you can return it under warranty. :thumb2

and sort the terminals out.

Double check your earths :thumbs

Try another alternator from Milners as there good to deal with :thumbs

Get some new terminals :thumbs

even with a battery not connected you should not see 15 plus volts, so the regulator has to be faulty, Rick

sounds silly, but could it be the voltage guage? try a meter across the battery terminals, (with engine running and not running and see if it agrees with your guage before going any further.

try your earths! easiest way get a jump lead atach to the battery negative then clamp the other end to the engine or body of the alternator! if no different try the same between the battery positive and the main battery terminal on the alternator! if still same sounds like the alternator! hope this helps!

Well its fixed :D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D today i checked the earths again tried another battery checked the voltage with a multimeter to confirm that the guage in the car wasnt lying and was still seeing the same voltage so i called Milners to see about getting a replacement alternator.so i told him what was happening and he said the voltage regulator on the alternator could be at fault but wasnt sure if this was integral or not so he said hed call the manufacturer and find out then call me back.So im waiting to hear back from him and thought id follow the wiring from the alternator and see if i could spot anything that lloked like a voltage regulator, the live splits off and goes one way to the battery terminal and then goes towards the brake master cylinder and into the fuse box its only then that i notice on the fuse box theres ALT 10A written on it so i popped the cover off and guess what!Yep theres NO FUSE :doh !New fuse fitted and the voltage dropped bak to 14.5 A under load this has been driving me mental for months and i never took the fuse out so its been like that since i got it 6 months ago and cost me about 50 quid in blown headlight bulbs!!! all for the sake of a 5p fuse i cannot belive i never noticed it written on the fuse box :doh:doh:doh:doh:doh sorry for the big post but im over the moon that its sorted :thumb2

Cheers for all the help and sugestions lads.

So without stating the obvious....... :nenau

Ok then......... do you think your old unit wasn't faulty after all, or maybe the previous owner realised it had say a faulty regulator that kept blowing the fuse so he took it out.

Either way, I'm pleased you have sorted it.:thumb2

Ha nah the previous alternator was dead mate wasnt charging at all the bearing was worn and the vac pump was leaking oil :thumb2 . The car belonged to my father in law before me and he swears that he never removed the fuse so it looks like its been gone for atleast 5 years  lol ah well thank fook its fixed now
