depends a lot on the inverter and its size, if it is a cheap y and draws big amps you have a problem, big amps mean big cables (I have a chart somewhere that makes it easy to size) but say you need to draw 40 amps (= about 500 watts) with the inverter in the boot then you need cables around twice the size of your starter cables, in order not to have voltage loss that makes the inverter work harder, and putting it in the engine bay is just as bad as they need to be kept cool not stuffed in an oven, hope that helps, if you want facts and figures then give me the details of your inverter, I can supply but need to find them (put them in a safe place?) Rick

ah yes.. have done that 12v...

but im talking 240V in the back... so i can use my caravan electric kettle...

As said before ... Inverter next to the battery, run 240 volt cable, to the rear.
You can put it in a conduit, or even use armoured cable...:lol

PS don't use the kettle whilst driving....:doh

sounds like overkill

why not get a 12v kettle
or gas, or one of those 12v
liquid heater that sits in a cup.

be fun explaining mains wiring
to insurance assessor...

you know me....

i got it for FREE so was thinking of using it!

12v kettles take ages!

i dont have a small gas hob..

best way i think is ...

pop the bonnet and hook it up. use it then put it back in the bag... simples..

I'd agree - I usually die of thirst before the bloody thing boils!

How big is this inverter then? They are usually no more than about 200w?

its got on it
soft start 600w
1500w dc to ac power

its a great big thing too

boils the kettle from the caravan ok.. 1000w one

you can get kettles and cuppa warmers that simply plug into your ciggie lighter socket , so you dont even have to leave the car :naughty

IF your kettle is 1000w , that is drawing one hell of a lot of current

When I got my 800 watt inverter for the boat, it came with huge crocodile clips and heavy duty cable. ( It's wired in permanently now via an isolator switch and is 18" cable length from the battery).

So keep it loose in the boot, connect it to the battery when needed.

It should still be quicker than using a 12 volt kettle, including the set up time.

So if it is raining.... think again.:doh

Plenty of ideas here.

Why not fit a sink, a 12 volt pump, a water tank etc so you can do the washing up as well. :thumb2

Having done all this tea drinking, you will also need a portaloo, or a bucket and chuck it.

Curtains, a bed.... maybe a shower, tv, :doh

Why not tow your caravan all the time ?:lol:lol:lol
