10w 40

I hope I have got this right. Previous threads had discussed engine oil for a T2 and came to the conclusion for 10w 40 mineral.

I have tried to get hold of some without any luck, even emailed Opie Oils, this is their reply...

Hi Steve

This is the only one that we have and it's designed for the running in of an engine rather than normal use.

Comma still sell 10w 40 in mineral I have some in the shed that I brought 2 months ago, red and blue tub, 5l bottles

Find a large morrisions and they stock it on the shelf, made by Carlube I think :nenau

I use 10w40 semi Synthetic as it's cheaper in my local car shop than mineral oil mine did have 5w40 in when I got it which nissan started to recommend after 2000 or so but found the truck was using oil since going to 10w40 which I ran my last T2 on I hardly ever need to top it up

I use Castrol GTX semi 10w40 or 15w40 which ever they have in stock.... and the cheapest.

Nothing rattles on my Mav... but then again, the mileage is quite low for the year, and it is the old Td engine.

Only ever used Castrol GTX, mineral in the early days, but NEVER fully synthetic.
I thought the part synthetic was a good compromise.

If it's the same viscosity range then synthetic is the same as mineral except it will not degredate as quickly. Any sound difference is between your ears!

I've tested this twice in 2 different vehicles and I'm telling you straight there is an audible difference is the way they resonate at different rev ranges

Yeah that's what the guy from Opie told me, but it is a running in oil and I'm not sure if there is anything 'extra' in the oil for running in. Short term use, then drain and refill

Last thing I want is to be bedding in my engine :nenau
