As Remembrance Day is tomorrow many people I know are saying that it will mark the end of WW1. My OCD kicks in and has to remind them actually no. Tomorrow is the 100th Anniversary of the Armistice which was the agreement to cease fire. The end of WW1 came with the treaty of Versailles which was signed on the 28th June 1919 but didn’t come into effect until 10th January 1920. Though many memorials will state 1914 to 1918 and indeed history lessons also gave this fact when I was a child though some will say I still am I child :lol

An interesting fact really and sorry totally unrelated to Terranos.

Ok -- you may well be correct!!!----- but I believe the important bit is when they stopped killing each other!!!!!!
Sorry --- still nothing to do with 4x4s !!!!!!!

100% correct and indeed whole heartedly agree with you.

I'm going to make the effort to get down to a parade tomorrow I think.

I just don't like getting upset :(

We will again be doing road blocks for the Chatham Remembrance Parade with SE4X4R. I think this year SE4X4R are assisting 3 parades, all of which have been cancelled in the past because of beurocratic cut backs.

Thanks for that info about the real end, I must admit I was ignorant to that.

More recent post war items

As some here are aware I am Austrian by birth having gained British Nationality sometime around 1960.
I was the product of a relationship between my Mother who is/was Austrian and a Lance Corporal he was part of the British Army On The Rhine (BAOR) that occupied post war Austria. Sadly my father contracted TB whilst on home leave and died without knowing of my existence. I met his family in 2012 including his brother who lives in the Walsall area.

When researching his Army Service I found he was awarded the GSM even though his posting was after 1945. Austria was governed in the post war period by the BAOR and did not gain full independence until May 1955.

I always wear a Poppy at this time of year out of respect for those who gave their lives for our freedom. All four of my Mums brothers died on the Russian Front - the stark choice was a Concentration Camp or Conscription into the Wehrmacht.

I will reserve my comments on war, but nonetheless have full respect for those that died to enable my freedom, although that is somewhat questionable in today's society, but I do not and will never buy or wear a poppy due to the mass corruption of so called charities that conspire too hood wink the public en mass, but I will give a few moments of sincere thought to those that gave their lives, Rick

I share your views on charities many spend disproportionate amounts on sustaining the fund raising infrastructure with only a small amount actually going to the "Good Causes" themselves.

Even worse some have been infiltrated and indeed taken over by what I can only describe as extremists. Look what has happened to the RSPCA in recent years.

:( :( That's such a sad story,I'm glad you got to meet his brother :thumb2

We did our bit, I washed the car on Saturday, and then nature rinsed it off for me!!! I even cleaned the wheels, I love that even with nearly 40K miles on the tyres, the white letters clean up so well..

I then stuck the magnetic decals on, and added the flashing lights.

Finally, I added the Poppy in pride of place on the front bullbar,

All ready to block the roads....

There were about 1500 people in the parade, and goodness knows how many people lining the route, and walking along with them.
