One of the lads in my team at work is having a few running problems with his Primera at the moment and he's asked for my help. It's done 180,000 miles and it's just generally running crap. He wanted me to look and price parts up for him to get it sorted out, he wants to give it a new lease of life until spring next year and then he's chopping it in as he wants something bigger with a new baby on the way and wants 4x4 capability, he loves Nissan and after seeing mine he now wants a LWB Terrano SVE :clap He's just got to convince the partner, he's also a little worried as he has 2 kids already, both requiring baby seats however there is no ISOFIX in the Terrano :nenau
So, I popped round last night and here's a list of issues I found;
Starter Motor - Clanking really loud when starting, sounded like top end at first when I first started it, I was able to confirm the starter though as I turned it again while engine was running and got the same noise
Glow Plugs - Cylinder 2 & 4 dead 1 & 3 ok, new set needed for sure
Fuel Filter Pipes - These appear to be very hard and brittle, when I tried to grab one and squeezed it, deep splits opened up and fuel seeped very slowly to the surface, the filter looks very old too, very awkward position as well under the engine bay at back but underneath a recess
Another issue that was evident was a pipe that comes off the airbox and then attaches back to the head underneath the plastic nissan engine cover, this has a massive split in it and is allowing oil to mist around making a mess, the pipe is just held on by spring clips, I'll find the internal diameter of it and get it replaced, I presume it's some king of oil breather?
What do you guys reckon? I'll be doing the work for him, I'm sure he'll sort me a drink, I've already sourced all the parts, just waiting on him to tell me to order them
