    Bit of snow...

So we had a bit of snow start of last week... would've been a shame to waste it :D Had a great late afternoon/evening driving around checking things out :thumb2 Pulled a car up a hill and back home through their uncleared street, offered help a couple times but wasn't needed...

    Steering wheels...

Steering wheel outer on the 4.2 has started to delaminate from the metal core :( I believe it can be sorted by drilling a few small holes in the back and squirting in silicone but I'm looking at all the options, anyone running an aftermarket steering wheel in their truck?

    Clean sheet for another year

Meant to stick this up a few days ago, after an initial fail on the rubber boots on the draglink ends (good excuse to get a proper aftermarket adjustable one) Bess got a clean sheet from the MOT tester, not bad for 27 years old :D

    24v through 12v bulbs

One for the electrically minded... So being a Japan import the 4.2 is a 24v lighting system. It has a 7 pin socket fitted for the towbar and checking with Daemo I knew there was a fair chance that the 7 pin would go through a reducer to turn it into a 12v output. I had a look and it looked to...

Bess - 4.2 Diesel Safari SWB Ongoing

So first wee modding/tweaking of the 4.2 Safari :sly One thing I had noticed on the drive home was that the Trol's speedo was reading up to around 5 mph low compared with gps. Obviously she's running on larger than standard tyres (33s) but I was keen to do what I could to fix it. On checking...

    Meet the new beast

Picked up this vision of 4.2 6cyl loveliness earlier ;):D Some of you may recognise her :augie Great meeting you earlier Daemo, I'll take good care of her - I'm smitten :D

Got a bit stuck on Saturday

Went to the local offroad site on Saturday (first time in a while and first time since I'd had the Lokka fitted). Was going well without much of a hitch, even successfully managed the big pond that I had avoided up until now... but then it happened! Smaller pond that I'd been through fine...

    These arrived at the weekend

Rock sliders for the Trol :D Can't wait to get them fitted!

    Broke the Trol a little...

Checking bits and pieces this weekend before the Yorkshire trip. Changed rear diff oil which was looking a bit cloudy and there was a wee piece of metal on the drain plug. Checked 4wd (on gravel), working. Stuck difflock on, light goes straight on (didn't even flash which made me suspicious) but...

Custom snorkel - adding to the Aussie Trol look!

Fitted my custom snorkel on Sunday, 3.5" stainless steel :naughty I'll do a post on my project thread covering details on the fitting but for now here's some fully fitted pics :D Stall test worked. Far too much suction for even a heavy duty plastic bag though - took a triple layer of the...

Snorkel prep : best treatment for bare metal?

So now have all my bits for making my snorkel (3.5" stainless :naughty) Question is, what's the best way to protect the bare metal after I cut into the wing and also drill the holes for the rivnuts? Needs to look tidy as it will be on view. Some of the Aussies suggest clear nail varnish? :nenau

Trols are really capable with just 2wd low and difflock...

So I met up with a mate yesterday afternoon for a session at the offroad site. Thought the hub on the driver's side didn't "feel" right when I turned it to lock and Foxy just didn't seem to be conquering obstacles with the ease she normally does, for example, there's a slope just as you come...

    33s Fitted

Got my new tyres fitted today :D 285/75/16 (33" in old money) Cooper Discoverer STTs. Really pleased with them. Fill the wheel arches much better than the old tyres. I just hope the blue colouring on the letters fades a little!

    Patrol Rims & 265/75/16 MTs

Okay guys I got Trol goodies for you! All to go on eBay but I'll wait a week in case anyone's interested. 4 used 16" x 8" standard Patrol alloys, +10 offset, flaky and grubby and there is a tar mark on the last one but I reckon would refurb okay :nenau There's also the 16" x 8" steel spare...

    That's a recovery point!

Replaced the rear recovery point. Before... After - now that's a recovery point :D (added a double step and moved the trailer electrics higher as well)

This no rear bumper thing is catching...

The Trol's rear bumper is a 3 piece, centre section and two corner sections. Had noticed the driver's side corner section was a bit loose when I bought the Trol and after my last session at the offroad site it had been a bit worse. So I made the decision to take the corner's off at least and go...

    Na Na Alex...

... I've got less exhaust than you! :augie :lol Turns out the new flexi was a bit too big :doh so couldn't fit it but got the rest of the exhaust dismantled and everything cut ready to fit once the right size flexi gets here. In the meantime I've got no exhaust past the downpipe... and I'm...

    Another exhaust question...

So I removed my main silencer at the weekend as it was getting fairly battered at the weekend and had picked up a few leaks. Replaced it with a straight stainless section and I've got to say the Trol definitely feels a lot livelier without that big jerry can hanging underneath. Exhaust noise...
