why does my battery go flat??

Hi Frosty. I know that you have removed your interior light bulbs to help diagnose your battery going flat but have you remembered the map reading light bulbs. They are so easy to miss !!! Just a thought. It happened to me

    Maverick '97 2.7tdi - starting problems!

See above posting by sweety, to which I add;- Was experiencing sluggish cold cranking. Checked battery; a good beefy one--OK, starter motor is fairly new so that was eliminated. Had a good look at battery terminals (original flimsy type) and they were physically intact BUT I found that the...

    Transaction Protests

I shall be joining the boycot of the fuel pumps on Monday because that's all I can do to register some sort of protest. This will surely make Alister Darling shudder  He will still get my money--but a little later! The resultant extra crowding at the (already busy) filling stations on the...

Light travels at 186,000 miles per second, you know

Hello pond. Reminds me of why the RAF never bought Concords---they went faster than the speed of a bullet leaving a gun---if the pilot pressed the trigger he'd have shot himself down  8O Hope you get your ideal waggon

    Dashboard lights

DASHBOARD LIGHTS Jim T (and any others interested) Progress report !!! Got a bunch of 20 x 10mm 12volt red LEDs off ebay. Drilled four 10mm holes under the radio "shelf" as mentioned before. Pinched the pos supply off the cig lighter lamp, installed this pos and an earth to a connector block ...

    Checking turbo is working

checking turbo is working hello bambam. Had similar quandry some time ago. Recommend you search my posting "Turbo waste gate". I got interesting tips and info from others. Seems to be various opinions about turbo noise. I now just assume my turbo is performing OK because the waggon pulls well...

    Automatic gearbox

Automatic gearbox. Thanks Jace---Did the search saw the other postings and now realise that it seems to be a "characteristic". It's nothing of much consequence anyway so I shall do what others do and happily live with it.

    Dashboard lights

Jim T---- Yes, I've got the same panel as you. Have had the centre panel out and had a good look around. Seems a good idea to drill the ledge under the radio. Thanks for that. Will get some leds and give it a go. Think I'll pinch the cigar lighter light supply.

    Automatic gearbox

My gearbox often (but not always) produces a snatchy change when moving fron 1st to 2nd ratio. Gives a minor kick in the back 8O All the other changes occur seamlessly. The oil was changed soon after I bought the truck but it still does it, especially when the gearbox is cold but sometimes also...

    Dashboard lights

Sweety----Thanks for your interest : I would like to improve the lighting around the heater controls and the auto gear lever area, its all a bit gloomy even with all lamps in action but these areas appear to be modules and it might be a bit difficult to insert some extra lamps. A bit more light...

    Dashboard lights

Thanks for tips folks. Rustygates ; I tried your "let there be light" and a good thump and lo and behold I was twice blessed ; yea verily the clock light jumped back into life and the radio lights started working again too. Even with all dash and switch lights working now it's still a fairly...

    Bottom Hose

Bottom hose Hi Thor. I too couldn't find a drain valve and thought removing bottom hose clip would be very difficult so I changed my thermostat by placing a large clean tray under front of engine to catch anti-freeze and just undid top hoses to let coolant spill out. Took stat top housing off...

    Dashboard lights

Dashboard lights. Thanks for the replies folks. Can I take it that the clock should be illuminated ? or not ? As I said before, all other lights work OK except the clock. I've had a session of thumping , tapping etc all around the dash as per suggestions----afraid much more will put all the...

    Dashboard lights

My dashboard lights are OK except for the digital clock. This is not lit and therefore useless in the dark. Can anyone tell me if it should be illuminated ? Perhaps it isn't. Perhaps I have a duff bulb! Can't tell from the handbook whether it should be lit or not, it never has in the...

    Turbo waste gate ?

Waste gate valve TOOLBOX, SWEETY and JACE. Many thanks for the info and enlightenment. With your help I now realise that all must be well with the valve and turbo. My old gal(car) is probably still working almost as well as when new, despite the 117K plus. I wish I was still young and agile...

    Turbo waste gate ?

Waste gate valve. Thanks for the info. Threw a spanner at the subject valve today. Detached the rod from the valve operating arm and valve moved quite freely. Found the rod moves rearward against spring pressure and needs CONSIDERABLE effort to make it move but it can move the valve quite a...

    Turbo waste gate ?

Waste gate valve. Thanks for that TOOLBOX. I'll give that a try as soon as her indoors will stop finding me other "important" jobs. :|

    Turbo waste gate ?

I've got a sneaky feeling that my turbo waste gate may be stuck closed and not be operating. With my limited knowledge, I'm guessing that its actuating rod should move towards the front of the engine to open the waste gate ! I also suppose that when the engine is off, I should be able to move...
