Your right, I will be changing to the webbing rope, the wire one will wear it out.

I haven't put an inline fuse on mine, or my previous winch, I do have a 10 amp spade fuse on the control circuit. The problem is: you could peak over a 1000amps at least, so a type "D" motor rated resetable fuse maybe suitable, if your really worried. Last thing you want is nuisance tripping...
