    Time to say goodbye?

Thanks Rick. In general I have the same attitude to life. :D I was hoping to get the vertical posts of our agricultural building up before the winter weather strikes. As I make the posts myself I need to have space in garage to weld them together. In addition, I need to dig 6 1m3 holes dug and...

    Time to say goodbye?

Well today did not really go as planned. (Does it ever?) What should have been a quick simple procedure in hospital has resulted in me not being allowed to lift anything for the next 14 days. Whilst I will continue doing some work on the car, manhandling the gearbox on my own is out of the...

    Time to say goodbye?

Rick, that is a very kind offer. Thank you. :thumb2 However, I have nearly all the parts that I need apart from bolts, sealant etc. I bought most of it from Euro4x4 and had it shipped to my parents in The Netherlands. It saved on shipping cost and import duty/VAT. Regarding major parts I only...

    Time to say goodbye?

This is what is left after cutting all the corroded metal out. Thinking about buying a 1000x200x10mm flat plate. Welding two 50x50x5 angle along the bottom to act as stiffeners. Then built two saddles out of 10mm flat plate for the gearbox mounts. It depends on how the other side looks when...

Started to remove the affected metal.

    Time to say goodbye?

Side view of the gearbox support bracket. The corrosion is clearly visible.

    Time to say goodbye?

    Gone from this

    Time to say goodbye?

Bit of corrosion on the chassis rail. Easy access when the gearbox is removed. Would be very difficult to get to with the gearbox in place. All cut out and repaired now.

    Time to say goodbye?

The rear crankshaft seal after the flywheel and cover plate have been removed.

    Time to say goodbye?

The old flywheel after the clutch has been removed.

    Time to say goodbye?

    Clutch and flywheel.

    Time to say goodbye?

Found a way to reduce photo sizes. To start, a photo of the removed gearbox.

    Time to say goodbye?

Waiting to hear back from some gearbox repair shops if they take the work on. It is proving more difficult then expected to find somewhere to have it repaired. Started on the sump removal yesterday but realised that I had no sealant in stock. So had to abandon that job. Instead I made new...

    Time to say goodbye?

For installation, I do indeed think that it is easier to remove the transfer box. I got her off alright but trying to line everything up during installation is a whole new challenge. The thing just weighs a tonne. Even on a smooth concrete floor the weight makes it difficult to move the...

    Mrs T2 3Ltr MOT

That is not too bad at all Rick! Obviously she is well looked after. I mean the truck, not the Mrs. :D

    Time to say goodbye?

The gearbox is finally out. :thumb2 It is far from ideal doing it on your own whilst crawling underneath the car. Would have been a lot easier if I had a lift. Hey ho, it is what it is. I hope that it will be picked up next week for a complete overhaul. Initially I thought about having a look...

    My new toy

That is good thinking Rick. Another option might be to put a post on a Model Engineers forum. Quite often they are happy to produce parts on request. We got a transport museum close by and they are happy to turn a few pieces for some beer money.

    Time to say goodbye?

Rick, I finally found your thread about your new exhaust. I listened to your youtube videos and it sounds good. Sounds pretty similar to mine since half the exhaust is missing. :D Couple of questions. I think that I know the answer but I’ll ask them anyway. -Have you informed your insurance...

    Time to say goodbye?

I did spend some money on a new brake pipe flaring tool. My old one was pretty useless and this one gets good reviews. It is also easier to use on the car. Taken the photo with my tablet so it is too big to add to this post. Bugger!!
