    welding, MOT fail

Mine's due to fail in a few weeks, sills are shot to pieces! First quote was about £3-400 for both sides, inner and outer - going to ask a smithy today for a keener price using some box section. If that's still too much, I'll have to take a day off and get in with Mr grinder and Mr welder and...

    265 70 16 and Y60 Troll Alloys Set of 5

Will they fit on a standard T2 or are they bigger? Might be needing 'new' tyres soon.

    AlpineQuest Android Greenlaning

Looks like the app is £5.99 for the full version which isn't bad if it's a good app. However, the OS maps are a harder item to come across!

    Engine heater

Ouch, hadn't clocked the wattage on ebay - 2Kw - way outta battery league!! Well, it was just an idle thought! My thoughts were more long the lines of a removable battery pack to charge from the mains each day to then power up the heater in the morning - dunno what I was thinking about, as...

    Engine heater

I had a thought on one of these - what sort of amps does it draw? I wondered if it was possible to run a battery -> inverter -> heater arrangement as I can only really park on the street. Could recharge battery at work during the day maybe :-)

    My books: 'The Gypsy Way'

Read the first, thoroughly enjoyed it, so going to grab the second once I've finished the current ebook. Will have to get through that pile of analogue books next to the bedside soon though! Has anyone else found themselves, while reading a paperback late at night, trying to turn the page by...

    Happy Birthday Marvin

Ahhh, Marvin's just a baby, just clocked 136500 this morning, as long as I can keep the body legal and the gearbox holds - she'll be good to do it all again! Happy birthday Marvin. :thumb2

    washers and glow plugs

I'd wiggle the key a bit and try again, sounds like dodgy connections somewhere to me as I use the rear pump much less than the front one, so cruds less likely to be sucked into there. Keep forgetting that the lights even have a washer!

    Computer advice needed, virus protection.

Agree with Banshee's comment regarding malwarebytes but steer clear of MS Security Essentials, AVTEST is the people to look at when choosing an AV product as they do regular certification tests and MSE has failed more than once. It does score highly for not impacting your machine/browsing...

    Computer advice needed, virus protection.

I need to add that Microsoft Security Essentials used to be very good, but is now no longer even classed as a suitable AV product by independent comparisons as it misses way, way too many attacks. Microsoft used to have a partnership deal with major AV companies to help maintain the AV engine in...

    new laptop needed

Ahhh, those were the days, tippex marks down the tape player volume control to make sure it had a fighting chance, plus the constant fear that you may sneeze and wobble the RAM pack on the back. Kids have it too easy these days!! Pete, Commodore 64, VIC-20 was were it was at such a great...

    new laptop needed

Pah! Spectrum 128 - try getting 3d Moster Maze to load up on a ZX81, or even worse, typing in long, long lines of hex code from a 'Your Computer' magazine, just to play some lame game!

    new laptop needed

I used Windows 8 on a laptop/tablet combined thing for work and have just rebuilt my main work desktop with Windows 2012 server which is very 'Windows 8 esque' and after an initial bleerch moment, I've got to quite like it. Generally speaking I think the underlying OS is a bit better than...

2005 Terrano 2 2.7TD stopped on motorway and won't start!

Hi Alex, welcome to the 'other nuthouse'. It certainly sounds like a sensor not informing the ECU to push fuel in - guys, does the fly by wire throttle have anything to do with this or am I barking up the wrong tree? Hopefully you'll get some more accurate suggestions than I've given you so far...
