thanks mate....

hello to all . i come here through the direction of mr zippy . i have been an avid land rover fan for many years now and have fixed them soo many times . dont get me wrong i still love my land rovers but my life is changing a little i feel and it maybe time for a change.

i have had a shogun in the past and paid heavily for owning it too. i have always had a soft spot for the patrol but dont know an awful lot about them so trying to learn as much as i can before deciding which to go for,.

my plan is this, and it is only at the planning stage at the moment

purchase a series land rover than i can batter around as i see fit and then purcahse a patrol for normal daily duties and holidays etc with some gentle lanes in between. if i want to play hard then the poor old series will take it

well thats the plan anyway......

Hi Denviks,
My first 4x4 was a Y60 4.2 auto Petroll that was fantastic all through this winter. Unfortunately had to sell it ( cash needed ! ) through no fault of it's own apart from it's heavy drinking problem.
I am due to pick up a diesel Auto 4.2 on thursday hopefully for keeps this time!!
Are you after a Y60 or the newer Y61??

Ebay 1997 SWB 2.8TD 73K £2900 about 8 miles from me.
Guess thats about Max ££'s for a Y60 SWB, after that you can have a 61 if you want!! But would you take it anywhere and everywhere and not worry about putting it on its roof!!!!

seems like good prices......

this would be my everyday vehicle and treated gently, but would still see some dirt. the old series would take the brunt of any aggression i would see fit to dish out ( i mean on pay and play and not on byways as i tread lightly )

the one thing hat is bothering me a little now i am looking into this more is the lack of patrols out in the uk. there doesnt seem to be THAT many really. does this become a problem for spares etc ?

I think alot of the Patrols are going for export and becoming a bit thin on the ground. My 4.2 you can see in my albums was exported to a mine in South Africa earlier this year. It's taken me ages to find a diesel Auto LWB for a decent price I just Paid £995 for a 1990 4.2D. Spares are not that hard to find. They generally don't break.

As a guide to reliability have a look and see how many Patrols are being broken for spares on ebay. then see how many Terrano's and for a real laugh have a look and see how many Toyota hilux's with blown heads are up for spares

Good Hunting!!
