It's official, we're hooked...
A few years ago, we were having a hard time, Work was bad, the bank wanted the house, parents were ill, and our car was written off by insurance scammers. While it was my fault, as I went up the back of them, they stopped while accelerating along a motorway slip road, just as I was checking over my shoulder to make sure nothing was in my blind spot. Because of this, there was a delay in the insurance payout, as there was an investigation into it, since they had done it before!
So basically, we were struggling. We needed a car, urgently, and ideally one that could tow the caravan, but trying to find one that could tick all the boxes, at short notice, and with the limited budget that Suz's dad kindly offered to lend us, proved difficult. Some how, having never looked at one before, I discovered some interesting information on the T2, and after a couple of nights reading everything I could about them, I was amazed at how anyone who had owned one, loved them to bits. We decided to give one a try, and said that if we could find one to get us through our current difficulties, and keep it a year, then if we did not like it, we would hopefully be in a better position to find something else, and sell it on by then. We found a few to look at, but there were some real dogs out there, and that knocked our confidence a bit. Our luck took a turn for the better though when we got some good news on the job front, and the same day found another T2 to go and look at. It was what we were looking for, cheap, and cheerful, but sound, so we bought it. Apart from a few teething problems which taught me so much about them, most I was able to fix myself, and a couple of others, I had the very kindly offered help of Rick, we fell in love with the car. Roll on a year, and Suz loves the car as much as I do, so the T2 is staying, but we could now do with a second car for Suz. We start to look for another Terrano and I set a search up on Ebay to see what is out there. After about a month, we find a listing for a different Terrano, a WD21, that Suz's just loves. We watch it, do a bit of research, and ask the seller some questions, and it's all looking good. Then someone on here posts up about the "Old Terrano" on Ebay, and Suz's heart sunk, as other people started to show an interest, although most talked themselves out of it. We decided to lay low, and just hope for the best, setting up the Snipe program to do it's bit for us. Luckily we won it, and at a good price, so now had 2 Terrano's, an original T1 and my T2. The T1 needed a lot of TLC, and I did most of it, but discovered 2 problems, the biggest was, it has no provisions for mounting a Towbar, and there is problem with the rear brakes which is proving difficult/costly to fix. When the MOT ran out, it was parked up on the drive, and I keep meaning to get around to sorting it out, but life takes over, so we were back down to one working car. The search I set up on Ebay is still sending Emails, and every so often we spot an interesting one, but often they are snapped up before we even saw it, or when you look closer you realise why they are selling it. Then on Saturday, we were in Orpington, and stopped for lunch in a little cafe. Suz popped off to the loo, so I did a quick scan of the forum, and noticed a T2 for sale, just down the road. I showed it to Suz, and she immediately loved it.. We popped over to check it out on Sunday, left a deposit, and picked it up last night... It's a very tight squeeze, but we have 3 Terrano's, and a Caravan on the drive at the moment... Sooooo Our names are Clive and Suzanne, and we are Terranoholics... can anyone help us... |

In the past 20 years.... of Terrano (Maverick ownership) I have only ever needed one lol....
When I go... It goes... not before, unless someone tries to make it shorter, or narrower

Terranos & variants
My four wheel drive experience.
2003-2008 Mercedes 4 Matic 300 TE Auto (124 series based 3 litre petrol Estate). 2008-2013 Tearrano R3mR auto 2.7 TD. 2013-2015 Hyundai Santa Fe V6 auto petrol. Feb 2015 current vehicle Jeep Grand Cherokee 2.7 CRD WJ series - just a shame about the agricultural ride. Okay so our Terrano R3mr was slightly different to a T1 or T2 - it just has a wider body with R&P steering plus coil springs all round but it is still my favourite AWD vehicle with the 300TE a close second. When we change in about 3/4 years time (provided Jeep lasts OK) it will probably be for a late model Patrol if we can find one without Starship Mileage. Other options might include a late model Merc ML 3 litre or the much later Jeep provided the ride has moved into the 20th Century. Hyundai had its good points but being petrol and quick when you floored the gas it just drank too much fuel on short journeywork. I am still contemplating spending some dosh on the Jeep rear suspension to see if a set of Koni Heavy Track adjustable dampers improves the ride but Jeep forums do not offer the sort of advice you get here on Our Forum. The Missus has only ever liked the Nissan and if we see one on the road I get that knowing comment every time. |

9-10 years ago bought a 1999 SWB T2 as the family motor & we loved it from the start & that feeling got stronger as time went on & started to take it off road after just over 3 years (normally only keep a motor 3 years max) sold it & bought another make of 4x4 which was a big mistake so sold it & bought an astra coupe as a stop gap motor (42mpg on a run) but due to health needed another 4x4 so hunted high & low for the best one we could find in the NE & after 18 months & looking at over 40 found a low mileage FSH LWB T2 & know the motors full history ie it was a dealer demo which was sold to the last owner with just 2 miles on the clock, now have had it for 2.5 years now & not had the itch to change motors at all so this will be the longest time i've ever owned a motor

I bought my terrano after my 406 hdi's fan belt jumped the timing for the 2nd time! pregnant & with a horse to look after at the top of a steep hill & the artic winter of 2010/11....my mum & I went looking for a car/4x4, I had figured out that the lower insurance was offset by fuel costs so was neither here nor there with financials of such.
I Had never seen or heard of a terrano before I spotted mine on the isle of rothsay in Jan 2001, mum & I went over on the ferry at the first break in the weather, island had a powercut from storms so didn't stay long, battery went flat on ferry but it jumped & managed to go 40 odd mile on a petrol can of diesel. Instantly fell in love with it, it's fun & lovely to drive. I still have it, although no longer in its original glory it will be one of a kind when it's finished (eventually been 3-4yrs). The wee 4x4 has gave me so many experiences both off-road and mechanical wise with many more to come yet. Currently I'm driving a big old 3ltr scabby surf (that's it's name) which I also love...it's just honest, would dare off-road it, donuts in field are it's specialty Terrano is next door in my garage and I have ordered gas for my welder....just need to plan a couple of hours on a regular basis to get the project moving again...since life does what it does and distracts you from hobbies. Had to many folk to count tell me to give up on the project, always trying to discourage me in one way or another....latest is my partner asking if it'll turn over or if it has been turned over. Answer was no, but I'll cross that bridge when I come to it. Sent from my HTC One M8s using Tapatalk |

I am warming to it, took this one up my lane today (with ecu talk hooked up) seems we have a "spill valve problem" but no codes so it may not need a new pump, possibly harness connections, any way sick as it is it flew up my lane in 2nd at low revs, so power wise well impressed, time will tell, bye the way any ideas how I can sort the down loaded data into a more readable format, Rick
