Operation de-clutter has started !

Well after almost 10 months of being pretty much retired I have started to chuck out stuff from my garage. I know I will probably need something I have thrown out in a few months time but it's in the wheelie bin !!

I can't believe how many TV cable connectors I have found in various boxes. Now they will all be in one box with a label !

It is amazing the amount of useful items that you collect over the years isn't it.

Careful though because next week after something really useful has gone in the bin you'll find a need for it

I think we are all the same... I have car spares in the loft for cars we owned thirty years ago... hoses, an alternator, ball joint for an Austin Ambassador etc.
Spare jack and other parts for a Xsara Picasso and a spare wheel...

We tried to start clearing the loft last year... we never got around to it.
I have stuff from the 1960's including a couple of old vacuum cleaners, one is the round constellation, that floats on air, the other the old cast aluminium Hoover Senior, from the 50's I believe, that would look the part in Heartbeat lol, three bikes up there, dozens of boxes that haven't been opened from house move to house move, and this is our third house.
Broken suit cases, curtains, carpets, Waterways world magazines by the box load... Gardening books, and some of my son's fishing books, and our kids toys, that are now being recycled for our grand kids lol...

Electronic data books from the 70's , some go for a good price actually...
Boxes of old electrical equipment, relays switches, transistors, connectors, motors, a huge Airfix slot car racing set from the 60's with 4 lanes, with banked corners and about 15 cars most with tyres that have turned to goo...
A coin collection of old UK currency, old pennies, florins, farthings, etc even Victorian, so I wonder where is the best place to sell those? so I think I should de junk, as when we are no longer around, our son will probably pay a house clearance company to get rid of thousands of pounds worth of nostalgic "junk"
So when I am in the mood, I might try to sell it on eBay.

However, due to my health, it might not be logical to spend months itemising in great detail all the things I want to get rid of, just to make a few hundred quid.
So I might give some items one chance on ebay, if it doesn't sell, then skip it.
I could probably fill a Luton Van. or maybe two.

There's something very therapeutic about throwing things away and decluttering. I am a collector too and have all sorts of junk that might just be useful at some point in the future, maybe...
Throwing it away is decluttering the mind too, I don't like throwing stuff away, so try and recycle wherever possible.

That's four hours I have spent collecting screws, rawplugs etc and putting them back into the right box where they live.

Thrown away about half a dozen brake pad wear sensors for my old Carlton, Mk2 Cavalier SRi, 260E Merc, trouble is they were loose without original packaging as were the caliper pins and clips. Numerous blunt drill bits, odd hoses and pipes for heaters etc. Did not realise how many odd wheel bolts and rusty brake drum retaining screws I had until today!

Found a steering puller that I had for my old Manta GTE with a pair of short and long legs. Will keep it as it might come in handy as pullers do. That said not actually used it since we parted with the Manta in 1991 but you never know!

Also a rotary clamp tool for removing tight oil filter - I have never actually used it but it seemed a good idea to buy one before the Millenium came.

Also a number of part used tins of paint and endless offcuts of metal and plastic pipes. Loads of old srews that were not cross headed. Old Yale lock parts and a raft of cleaning utensils & pipes for vacuum cleaners we no longer have! Endless gone off tubs of superglue etc etc.

I feel quite euphoric now . lol

The thing with paint or varnish, is you see a tin, and on your next project you open it, only to find it is just one thick crust, or in the case of emulsion, has a thin layer of black mould spores...

So you end up buying new all over again, and throwing out the old stuff.

Clearing out my Mum`s attic.......40 years or so of clutter......Mea Culpa.......most of it mine.....but a lot of the usual collected detritus of a few lives lived and lost......

Then I discovered my old Hornby OO gauge electric train kit.....all in original red/blue and white striped boxes.......

Nostalgia ain't wot it used to be.......

My wife always tells me I keep junk... but occasionaly, I have the last word...

She came home one evening from work, and the windscreen on the Mini clubman was smashed... Oh I said... I've got a spare one of those behind the shed... An hour later fitted.

Another time, the hoover washing machine exploded, well the motor did..
I said... I have the old motor from the last washing machine... I wonder if it's the same.... one hour later...yippee it was...
The water fill solenoid on the dishwasher failed as well, by chance, it was the same as on the Hoover washing machine I had stripped for parts... Still have the drive belts for those lol...
My son wanted some patio chairs... down came two original Deck Chairs.

There is also a lot of real junk too, but I don't admit to that...

Now with the price of scrap, is it worth putting all the scrap metal into the trailer and weighing it in...
I have three steel radiators, a couple of old Maverick Brake discs, a Maverick tow bar, a Rover 600 tow bar, the odd brake cylinder, even an old Briggs and Stratton lawn mower... Why have I kept this junk, it's not as if I'm going to put the old discs back on the Mav lol...
So Tip.... OR...... metal recycling centre ? Or we could leave it at the bottom of the drive...

Easier to leave at bottom of drive and if you're gonna take it anywhere I'd go for scrap yard and get some money.

would not mind betting I have more "stuff" than most of you put together as any who has been here can testify, 45ft x 25ft barn full to bursting, workshop with hoist can just get car in, ex dog shed holds the lathe and much other "stuff", battery shed with batteries and much other "stuff", ex stable now laundry room and more "stuff", 20ft x 15 ft shed full of "stuff" including a T2 chassis and my old SWB off roader, plus out in the air 3 T2 scrappers my off roader and a pile of fridges/freezers ice cream machine (most stainless commercial) but scrap price is so low now it is not worth the transport, so I will sit on it, Rick

Aim to get stuck and be completely self sufficient in extraction, love getting muddy, 2ft deep is good but rare.
