I know we have some very skilled handypeople on here, so I'm asking because I'm completely inadequate on things like this.
I've seen this barbecue which is made from an old boiler.

How difficult is it to fabricate a bowl like this?
Does anyone know anyone I could talk to about fabricating a bowl like this.
I'm interested in the bowl only and not the tripod.
I think it'd be great as a cooker/heater with the awning.

An old round style BBQ with cut down legs would do the same job

but having it in the awning with the sides are down to cook or as a heater could be very bad for your health due to carbon monoxide poisoning

I know that, but I might just be looking at a bit of a project and need them fabricating to different sizes.

OK first things first, have not a clue where that item would have come from, certainly not a boiler as in domestic, it is more akin to the bottom part of a LPG gas cylinder only larger in diameter, so straight away not easy to source, I can only suggest a visit to your local scrappies with a pic of that thing and see what comes up, Rick

I'm looking at fabricating as scrappies probably won't be able to supply in volume.

you are not going to be able to fabricate that bowl it is pressed under tonnes of pressure, Rick

That's what I thought and I imagine it's an expensive process, no?

that sort of thickness steel would need a very big press like thousands of tonnes and the dyes would have to be made, so they would be looking at a minimum production run of say 10,000, but it is likely that some place something like that is all ready being produced, search on the net, Rick

These dish ends are made for pressure vessels and air receivers. Abbotts in my home town Newark hot press these out. Following link shows some done for fire pit use - http://www.air-receivers.co.uk/news/...re-pit-anyone/
Also search for 'spun dish ends' this is a forming process that produces the same thing but will have a small hole in the center.

look for something that is already in production, I remember years ago when Themomax started up making evacuated glass tube heat collectors, they discovered that the glass tubes were already in production for discharge lamps so they just purchased loads instead off having to get them made to order, so like calor gas has to have the bases made by someone, Rick

Spinning is good, hole in the centre is also good.

as posted you could cut the legs down on a BBQ, job done.

or even use a BBQ lid and bolt 3 legs to it

1976 i went to a train breakers and got 2 large diameter air tanks from trains to make a big 7hp 25qfm compressor for my workshop.did not cost a lot,just an idear.
