Just a pity it's not a 4.2TD engined one. She's not that far from me if anyone needed someone to take a look. |

Majority of the Y61 owners on here (including me) have the ZD30 along with some of the Terrano owners I reckon our colder climate helps though, that and the Euro spec ZD30s have an EGR cooler which the Aus spec ones didn't get until they went CRD (I think). |

You could get a 4.2TD Y61 if you lived in Aus and bought prior to around 2005/2006 when they stopped offering it as an engine option (think that's the right years).
That's why there's so much extra space in my Trol's bonnet, its designed to fit a 6cyl engine not a 4cyl engine so they have to fill some of the space in front of the rad with extra fan cowling. Its also one of the main reasons the 3.0 Y61 DMF has such a habit of failing - 3.0 & 4.2 Y61's have exactly the same drive train. The 3.0 engine can produce more power than the DMF can handle and as the drivetrain is already beefed up to handle a 4.2 beast the DMF acts as the weak link and fails. All 4.2 Y61s came with a solid flywheel so really Nissan should have thought it through better Because the drivetrain is the same the 4.2 engine will pretty much bolt straight into a 3.0 Y61, you just move a couple engine mounts and rig up an old school cable throttle pedal - guess what I plan to do in the fullness of time when I have the spare cash and a spare 4.2 engine You occasionally see UK Y61s coming up for sale that have had a 4.2 engine swap (not all 3.0, some 2.8 ones have had it to, although I understand there's a bit more to it). Tbh if I was going to all the trouble of importing an Aus Y61, I'd have done it with 4.2 one not a 3.0 |

What I discovered when researching to buy my Patrol is you are safer to avoid 52 and older plates if got 3.0 engine, as from 03 onwards they where modded with extra oil ways etc.
Kind regards Russell. |

Huh that's interesting, so if I read right there are some uk model y61 with the 4.2 available?!
That excites me a little, if not the y60 wins all day |

It's not common bud, and as the Y61s were never as popular as other 4x4s they're only gonna become less common as most folk that go to the trouble of the engine swap will be planning to keep them. |
