Holiday in Scotland
"She who must be obeyed" and I have just returned from a brilliant holiday in Scotland. The old Mistral did us proud !! Before the trip, I changed all the oil/filters and used the diesel kit from Richard at Pitstop, so Molyslip went in practically everywhere, and I also fitted ATM's.We left on the Thursday, travelling up to Gretna Green, a distance of about 345 miles from home, and stayed till Saturday morning. After topping up the tank ( £56:00 ) we headed North again to the Isle of Skye, and after topping up again at the Kyle of Lochalsh (£54:87 ) headed for the NorthWest of the island where we had rented a fabulous cottage for the week. Plenty of driving on the island resulted in me topping up again on the Thursday evening at Portree (£55:20 ) before setting off on Friday morning on the Southward journey to Kendal, where we overnighted , and again topped up the tank (£61:95) before driving down to Blackpool to see the grandchildren ( They live in Bispham) , spending a night there before setting off back to Swansea. Topped up again on the way down (£52:15) and arrived home with three-quarters of a tank of fuel left.
The price per litre averaged out at about £1:22 per litre , so all in all, taking in to account the distance and types of roads involved, we were really pleased. Anne loved the trip so much, that today she booked one week in a cottage in Torridon, followed by the next week at the cottage we rented at Glendale... So saving like mad for Scotland again on March 21st. 2009. Matt. |

I didn't actually record my mileage, but Swansea to the Gretna Hall hotel in Gretna Green is approx.345 miles, and the fuel was £1:22 a litre, and she took £56:00 worth.
Thanks for the invite Dadba, but I don't know whether the cash flow would extend to that, as we have to take Anne's mother to Weymouth for a week as well as the two weeks in Scotland. We would love to do the Orkneys , and certainly intend getting there sometime in the near future. Hey Cosmic , I'm a coffee man myself ... milk but no sugar ... and a couple of "Hobnobs" wouldn't go amiss !! On the trip up , we travelled Swansea > Brecon > Leominster > A49 Shrewsbury > Whitchurch > to the M56 and across 1 junction to the M6 joining by the Thelwall viaduct , and returned the same way, trying to keep motorway driving to as little as possible. We are thinking of upgrading to a newer truck in the new year, and this time it will be a manual. Our Mistral has only got 113000 Kilometres on the clock, so whoever gets her gets a good one. All the best, Matt. |

OK bud no probs.
We avnt planned a date yet so if you change your mind your more than welcome. As for a cuppa at Cosmics place I like your choice of biscuit but Im a Jammy dodger or equivalant man. But ginger nuts are a treat with tea. Ideally tho you cant beat a good flapjack. I have my tea and coffee the same as you tho bud. Thanks Cosmic. : I learnt my art of driving not too far from where you are. A place called St.Athen. Do you know of it ? |

Would that be under the auspices of the R.A.F. Dadba ? Some big plans in place for St. Athans now ... M.O.D. supposed to be making it an even bigger training place. What's the crack about Wallie's Trolleys / Wigan Airways ? ... I've held a P.S.V. for 35 years myself, and used to tour Scotland a lot on Globus Gateway , until 1988 (Lockerbie) and later with Bowens Holidays out of Tamworth.

After having to travel to Dover by car, then jumping in a coach at the docks and driving 22 hours (two driver job) down to Italy or Yugoslavia, a trip to Scotland is local for me mate.
I once had a second driver with me who had only passed his P.S.V. test the day before, and had never been outside Wales, and we were on our way to the South of Spain ...... The Periferique around Paris scared the you know what out of him !!! Matt. |
