Default What to look for

Looking at getting a Terrano 2.7 lwb. What should I look out for ect There seems quite a few posts about rust, is thia a big problem with them? I have a 2.8 auto Pajero at present

front wings (not mot fail point) inner wings, front chassis below the battery (fail point) sills (fail point) below rear seats (double skin) and if within 300 mm of seat belt fail point, rear seat belt mounts seen from above rear wheels (fail point) some members experience chassis rot but not seen any myself, Rick

Super strong body cills capped with scaffold pole

aggressive off road tyres on wheels so just swap.
Aim to get stuck and be completely self sufficient in extraction, love getting muddy, 2ft deep is good but rare.

as with any motor it depends hows its been looked after, imports fair better as they haven't been subjected to salted roads for years

I saw a 96/97 shogun, my god it was rusty. But then again it could of been treated crap compared to my maverick.

never had a plate on the chassis, still good for a few years. Only thing needed was sills when I bought it. Then inner arches a few months back.

I have searched but have been unsuccessful.

Is there a specific post on where (Exactly) to look for the rust, hopefully with photo's to show clearly where the problem areas are?

They don't really hide it. Front wings bubble up around their edge, above the plastic trim and sills rot out at the rear end. You can easily see the rear seatbelt mounting in the rear wheelarch.

I'd say they've got a pretty good rust record compared to some, but when they go, they really do seem to go. Mine is a 1996 pre-facelift and is amazingly solid bar the sills, which have just been welded up (roughly £30 a side). I can't really do photos of where they rust as mine now has none!

I do tend to jetwash it after every off road trip, and have recently coated the chassis in Bilt Hamber's Dynax UB anti-corrosion wax.

I think the advice needed also depends on how old a T2 you are looking for and what you intend to do with it, as there are different variants, though corrosion, as mentioned, is always worth looking for but the same goes for any car

dont think we've ever had a big thread or thread going on rust, but as said
some of these trucks are heading for 20 years old.

when i was getting my first was warned off them on gearbox issues which
was over stressed too.

suspect problems are so minimal that the issues that are noted then seem
bigger than really are.

if you find a good one then why not get an independent inspection, say aa
or rac.

good all round cars, can tow well so some might make issue of wear from
tugging, but i'd say check it out, theres plenty of late models coming thru
for a song.

I have seen many Terrano's and seen many rust points but no worse than others it depends on location and maintainance a well as well as location, I had a motor from Scotland that was body perfect but rust below was real bad, Rick
