Default Damper problem

I have got an old caravan that I have owned for about 5 years, sadly it has not been used on a holiday yet. but fingers crossed that will change this year, I put in in a caravan storage place in August last year but sadly on the way the braking damper burst. So now I need to find a replacement damper, I have looked into it a bit and worked out I need a whole new coupling

Then the next job will be new tyres (which I cant afford for ages yet)

after that it will need a wash and a bit of painting then I am ready to rock and roll

I cant wait for my first caravan holiday with my kids

tyres are 175/R13

I think part of the fun is going to be doing it up too.

I am fairly sure that is whats written on the side of the current tyres, I might nip to the storage place and double check this weekend

should be same format as, say, 235 x 70 x R16 for the standard T2 16" tyre.

Thats tyre width, sidewall height and rim size. The above would be 235mm wide, with a sidewall height 70% of that (so 164.5mm) and a rim diameter of 16". So you're just missing the middle number I'd have thought.....

just get some part worn van tyres, check the load rating first they need to be at least 6 ply, 8 ply are better.

is the damper definitely broken? As if it's just a case of it thudding against the back of the car on braking it may just be brakes not working properly after the long time in storage, might seem silly, but always store it with the handbrake off

a brand new damper should cot no more than £30 to £50, there is a big caravan breakers near to me, and they have a website, if only i could remember what they are called

[QUOTE=stevecrm;129713]tyres are 175/R13

the tyre size you have given are correct! its a commercial tyre size! ie a small van! be carefull if you are thinking of just putting normal car tyres on! the load rating may be different ! and side wall ply's may be less!!
