car? alloys onto a caravan
the plastic trims covering my decent looking black steel wheels on caravan
are looking past sell by. could get decent set of trims for £20 or so. looking at alloys, ex car variety on the bay. steels are 5jx13, aware of pcb requirement, any issues with using car wheels alternative is not covering the black wheels and being safety concious with these plastic tell tales for wheel nuts coming loose.

yeah, looking on cheap side.
challenge when set of trims 20-30 if could get 4 alloys for say 50 then tart up and swap tyres over. thinking have to check loading after all the 4 steels carry 1700 kg between 'em, average mk2 escort that also ran on 5j 13s with 155s somewhat less. plus would consider having caravan up plated? since ratio still so low against troll.

If you fit alloys to wheels with studs, then as the alloys are thicker you may need longer studs on each wheel, as there may not be enough thread engagement.
If they are wheel bolts, then you may need to get longer ones. Edit: don't you have to get special nuts for alloys as the surface area is different.. not too sure about this..?

good link, thanks, sems fair choice of spoked designs, to match troll. not six spokes but alteast the five spoke designs would compliment, plus lots of fresh air between spokes to allow wheel clamp and chance to feel if brakes are getting warm. and with the 'fives' tie in with mock wheel nuts. if you see a sixer though let me know seems to jump to 7 then 10

i would be careful with car alloys, try finding some 'van' alloys as you have to think of the sideways force on the rims when turning a twin axle trailer! Some small vans have pretty high payloads for example a berlingo/partner 800 carries 800 kilos plus the weight of the van and runs on 6 ply tyres. Therefore - it's fair to assume wheels from one of these would carry the weight and be strong enough to resist cornering forces.
I might be completely wrong, if so feel free to tell me but be careful if one breaks it could do a lot of damage and would the insurance company be happy |

well dont think will be going alloy for now though found some
6 spoke trims on ebay just after posting before so having a closer look for a match to troll wheel design. no big rush can always just run with bare rims as nice and clean.
