New in 2021 Petrol from E5 to E10 - 10% Bioethanol.

More trouble for Petrol Cars built before 2000.

Some classic car owners already have problems with fuel lines & fuel seals being damaged by the current E5 petrol its going to get worse next year with the proposed move to E10.

I can't see the Supermarkets stocking E5 when E10 comes out. I'm not sure how it will affect our Merc R129. Not sure if the present Super Unleaded will also contain the higher Bioethanol content.

I think the Petrol Companies are delighted as its cheaper to make as well.

Doing a bit of research & E10 fuel is about 3% less efficient so mpg suffers, also issues with it absorbing water. I hope the government decides against it but unlikely.

Heard this on Radio 4 on the way to work yesterday.

Is this just going to be the same all over again like when they stopped selling 4 star

Surely owners that want to keep their older cars going will just now have to put additives in? Or am I missing something more fundamental?

I suspect additives will be unable to remove the bioethanol, it will be a case of trying to add stuff like dry fuel to keep the absorded water suitably amalgamised. On old cars at present that do not like E5 you have to replace fuel lines and seals.

They introduced it last year to The Netherlands, even cars that are capable of running E10 are giving issues.
And if you are running E10 your millage will drop.

My girl has a 2004 Ford Focus that can run E10 accoring to Ford, but the engine doesn't run a smooth as on normal E5 and she does over 50 miles less on a tank.
In our luck we do live close to the German border were they have E5 and petrol is way way cheaper as well.
