Just thought i'd say hello, i did not join for any help but i do love my Nissan. It's probably not as smart as all of your's because it works extremely hard. It is also the base of a lot of my experiments (not all are good ones!) I run a '99 Y61 Patrol 2.8 TD6 LPG HYBRID with NOS injection, however the latter is going to be removed for safety reasons. I have not perfected the LPG system yet but i reckon i have gained about 40 BHP and get a fuel return of about 37 mpg around town. I am currently working on a way of overiding the MAF sensor around town to increase the MPG further i will keep you all posted if it works out else i will keep real quiet! : And yes i am...... hence the nick name! :wink:

how are you getting 37mpg then? or are you basing it on an 'equivalant price' calculation between LPG and petrol rather than actual MPG?

sounds intresting though!

I'm sure you will find lots of things to interest you (and us) on here!

Mpg figures are easy 95 litres of diesel 40 litres of LPG reset trip meter and drive..........lots! Convert litres to gallons divide miles travelled, However remember that air density and temperature play a big part in the way modern diesels perform so no two results will be exactly the same also traffic conditions vary so its hard to be precise.

Hi & wellcome to the club :smile: NOS 8O I was going to fit that to an escort I had a few years back, but my wife said no because she said we could'nt afford to get the the bottle filled up every few days & the wife said I would get banned in about a week :roll: : :

Ermm yes it has a similar effect on diesels and on a 3 ton patrol the result is somewhat unpleasant, however i did not fit it for speed but to overcome another problem but i think i have found another way round the problem!

Yes it is, the technical parts of the lpg system were a collabaration between myself and a mate who does gas conversions on petrol cars, however the integration into the Patrol is all my own undoing! :

i remember fith gear put nos on diesel golf auto think they reckoned diesels and nos went together brillantly auto box was stronger than clutch on standard golf!

Yep it does work well however the kit i had was borrowed from a motorcycle and metering the right amount of nos / fuel is tricky at best and the effects of an uncontrolled burst in a 3 ton 4x4 require a long empty road and no bends and some luck! Hence the removal bit! anyway i will be pleased to show anyone the lpg setup when its all 100% it's 99% at the moment so watch this space.

Excuse me for being thick (no comments about the name : ) so the mpg is using both the diesel and gas at the same time, what ratio of gas to disel does it consume?

Is the LPG injected in to the inlet manifold only, I presume it is an addition to the diesel being injected in to the cylinder, burning the diesel more efficiently. Has there been any need to remap the ECU.

Hi, no need to remap ecu, lpg gets fed into a mixer in front of turbo fed by a sort of demand valve (think about a scuba diver!) engine draws what it needs to a point, this is controled by restrictors and valves and a solenoid which cuts lpg feed when accelerator pedal is released (this returns engine braking to normal) Diesel is always injected even when lpg is being fed at full amount. This is only an idle amount though because the pump and injectors require diesel to lubricate them. The reason the diesel amount returns to an idle amount is because the lpg is not taken into acount by the ecu, it just sees the vehicle achieving the required speed without having to inject huge amounts of diesel. I guess a way of explaining it is like driving down a hill all the time, very little effort is required by the engine and the burning lpg has the same effect because it is producing energy. The lpg burns hotter than diesel so the resultant emissions are a lot lower and less harmful to the environment, and at 50p a litre less harmful to my wallet!

Not thick! it can be hard to get your head round this stuff, the ratio varies according to engine load and demand. go for a ride on a push bike as you know the steeper the hill the harder you have to work etc etc. As the lpg is fed via a demand valve of sorts the bigger the demand the more lpg is used wheras the diesel is injected and the drops off to a certain level where as the lpg rises to a level and remains there. hope you got that :wink:
