All nicely levelled out now, just waiting for the next 20t.
Gate posts are in, a couple of railway sleepers should hold the gates up nicely.
Just need to make the gates and find some bargain gate motors on ebay.
Oh.. n the Trolls got a fresh MOT too.

TBH as always you get what you pay for we have Frog motors with Came controllers. Ours are below ground motors we have had them for some 6 years. Even when they are flooded and the water has frozen they still work!! I think they are 24 volt motors.

The Frog motors are well sealed from water ingress - after our fire due to the corrosive debris that was left in the sump type casing they started to play up. Fortunately the Insurance paid for new pair. The gate contractors chucked the old motors.

I have seen lots of the above ground arm driven type arrangements cause no end of trouble to owners. When I drove for MB a lot of the owners lived in high end properties having Fort Knox Gates etc. Frog Motors seems to be well rated in the trade.

If you get a power cut there is a simple key so you can disengage the drive. You can get a lock insert to restrict access to the drive disengagement arrangement but like locking wheel nuts they are in my view not worth the bother. If someone want to get in they can climb over or ram them!

I decided to go with a cantilever style gate so that it slides to the side without any need for it to run in a track.

I wanted it to slide rather than swing because after a decent snow, they would struggle to open. I opted for the cantilever rather than a track for the same reason, also it would probably fill up with dirt & leaves!

One motor does all the work, with a little cog running on some toothed track. (It has a little toggle to tell the motor to start and stop when it has reached it's fully open/closed positions)
