The service kits for my Vehicle list no 10w 40 Mineral and says a service kit is 6 litres when I know for a fact I need 7.2litres for an oil change

There are very few 10w-40 mineral oils now, the only one we have is a running in oil. A semi in an upgrade over a mineral oil and the 'synthetic' component in a semi is actually a highly modified and refined mineral oil, so a semi is actually 100% mineral oil anyway.

There does look to be a capacity error with your car, but I've checked a few databases and they are all listing 6.2L for it, rather than 7.2L. The only ones I can find that list 7.2L are the 1999-2002 models. I will get the service pack updated.

Thanks for the update, I've had this argument with numerous other members and have tried it many times to prove. Semi 10w 40 in my car causes the engine to sound very clattery when cold. Swap that for mineral and she purrs like a cat. I've got a solid source at the moment who is able to get me 10w 40 Mineral. It's a little pricey at £41 for 8 litres but I don't care, this car gets the good stuff.

The engines never changed, my 2004 is exactly the same as my 1996 TDi was and both hold 7.2 litres, I've never measured very accurately but I'm always left with just bit over 1l I think

It's a bit odd about the capacity, I've checked 4 databases and they all list 6.2L for yours.

Mineral oils are often good at absorbing sound, but it doesn't mean they are offering better protection than a semi or full synthetic.

Is that including the filter? Still doesn't equate to 7.2l though

My apologies, I've just checked and you are correct

TD27TI with filter = 6.2l
without = 5.5l

I must be over filling mine slightly then

Better check that ASAP

It could possibly be an overfill, but if it's correct on the dipstick, it's not overfilled. Some oil capacities that are on databases are not 100% accurate.
