Hello All
Hi My name is Marcus and I am from Bristol. I purchased on the weekend a 93 Maverick 2.4 as a bit of an ebay whim. I have liked the idea of owning a 4x4 for some time allthough I was mostly looking at big things with V8's in. Unfortunatly my wife will only let me have 1 car with a big engine and I cant part with my 300zx Nissan.
Anyway due to said nissan (300zx) being rubbish on fuel I have always has a cheap run about off ebay as my work car, mainly Vauxhall Carltons as I generally only like to spend 500.00. Well I had recently sold my last Daily Runner (A mondeo) and didnt really need to replace it since my wife has pretty much stopped using her car anyway, but I saw the Maverick for sale and temptation got the better of me. Bored you yet LOL. So to the important stuff my Maverick. She is a 1993 2.4 GLX SWB in Grey (I'm sure it dark green though) I paid a whopping £300.00 and that included 12 months MOT. I expected paying that little for one of these vehicles that I may have been in for some nasty suprises, but their don't seem to be any. There is a small amount or rust on the rear arches (which seems rare from other Mavericks/Terrano's I have seen) The passenger Elec Window doesnt work, small leak in the exhaust and the radio doesnt have a code. Apart from that All is fine. I am chuffed with it TBH, took a little getting used to driving it (its my first high up 4x4 style car) but now i'm really liking it more and more, so much so I though I would join and mingle with fellow enthusiasts. |

How do Marcus and welcome. Nice to find another ebay winner. I got my '93 petrol one for £222.22. Needed a bit of work though, just passed its mot again too.
Good luck and if you need any spares give me a shout as I've just another one to break. |

Thanks for the replies.
I've heard these things are quite reliable, my biggest concern is corrosion at a later date as I know its had a bit of work in that department this year. Here is the MOT history report I got online Registration mark: L8 Make/Model: FORD / MAVERICK Colour: GREY Approximate date of first use: 19/11/1993 Type of fuel: Petrol -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Date of test: 25/10/2005 Certificate issued (Pass) Odometer reading: 95,462 Miles Test class: IV Test expiry date: 24/10/2006 No Advisory Notice issued -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Date of test: 29/09/2006 Certificate issue refused (Fail) Odometer reading: Not recorded Reason(s) for refusal to issue Certificate Nearside Front Front suspension has excessive play in a lower suspension ball joint (2.5.B.1a) Front Front brake application uneven (3.7.A.2c) No Advisory Notice issued -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Date of test: 29/09/2006 Certificate issued (Pass) Odometer reading: 103,661 Miles Test expiry date: 24/10/2007 No Advisory Notice issued -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Date of test: 15/10/2007 Certificate issue refused (Fail) Odometer reading: 111,629 Miles Reason(s) for refusal to issue Certificate Rear Exhaust mounting missing (7.1.1b) No Advisory Notice issued -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Date of test: 15/10/2007 Certificate issued (Pass) Odometer reading: 111,630 Miles Test expiry date: 24/10/2008 No Advisory Notice issued -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Date of test: 12/09/2008 Certificate issue refused (Fail) Odometer reading: 114,021 Miles Reason(s) for refusal to issue Certificate Rear sections Fuel pipe leaking (7.2.1a) Offside Front Anti-roll bar rubber bush deteriorated resulting in excessive movement (2.4.G.3) Nearside Front Anti-roll bar rubber bush deteriorated resulting in excessive movement (2.4.G.3) Rear Exhaust mounting missing (7.1.1b) Offside Rear sill Seat belt anchorage prescribed area is excessively corroded (5.1.B.6) Nearside Rear sill Seat belt anchorage prescribed area is excessively corroded (5.1.B.6) Advisory Notice issued Centre Exhaust has a minor leak of exhaust gases (7.1.2a) -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Date of test: 18/09/2008 Certificate issued (Pass) Odometer reading: 114,023 Miles Test expiry date: 17/09/2009 Advisory Notice issued Centre Exhaust has a minor leak of exhaust gases (7.1.2a) I've highlighted the work carried out for this years MOT. Visually the bodywork is in great condition apart from the rear arches, probally as this one was used by a horse owner off-road, and the lady never cleaned it often (was covered in hay inside when I purchased) No extra's one her, no bullbar or steps in stuff. I'll get some pics on the weekend. |
