Smile Looking to buy 2005 Terrano

Hi all, brand new to this forum and terrano territory at a whole.

I am currently seeking a 4x4, shogun was an option, but ruled that out due to cam chain replacment and DMS (ive been there before and had bad experience)

Spotted the terranos (2.7) and from what I read they are gear driven with a single mass flywheel

However, I am still A COMPLETE NOVICE and don't really know what I am looking for, I am going tomorrow to look at a 2005 terrano with about 80k miles on the clock. I plan to use it as an every day vehicle aswell as a play car for greenlanes (nothing too extreme - tried devils pit a good while back and wont go again)

Any expert opinions or niggles that are easy for a novice like me to spot would be greatly appreciated, bear in mind I am not a mechanic either

I work in the motor trade but I am a service advisor (and was currently for motorcycles only)

Apart from that, a friendly Hi from me and hope everyone had a good new year

Oh I should mention, I previously owned an old R reg frontera SWB sport.
used to commute with 31 AT's with a 2" lift, so comfort not an issue

Welcome aboard. Well I've had mine since 2002 so that should tell you something about the cars.

Big thing to look for is rust but a vehicle that age should be more about rust prevention when you've bought it

Yep gear driven timing and a vehicle that age will have fixed front hubs so no need to worry about those.

Yeah, I have been having a good look around the forum, what was the deal with these hubs?

So rust is a good one to look for.

I actually went to see one already but decided against it,

had a gurgle when revved at 2.250k and smoked quite alot,

also not sure if this is NORMAL? but the fan was on all the time!?

this one looks a bit nicer so fingers crossed

There great motors onto my second one & i'll be keeping it till it can't be welded any more as I still regret PX'ing in my last one. As said look carefully for rust & listen out for a rattle on tick over which go's when the clutch is pressed down (worn lay shaft bearings) but my last one had this when I bought it & after putting 40K on the clock the gearbox was still working ok.

The fan will always rotate as it's powered from the water pump pulley & for the first 1/4-1/2 mile up the road it will roar then go quiet, if the engine is getting hot & the viscous coupling kicks in & it'll roar away again until it's cooled the engine enough

My 2005 is solid, unlike my old 2001 which was very scabby underneath, maybe the ones you looked at, had been dipped in the sea.
As I have said before, it depends on how a vehicle has been looked after as to how it will survive in later life.

Thanks for the heads up but as i am going through finance I am having a difficult time. the terms I must follow... 2006 model! which there aren't many of, and less than 100k miles...

I am having a hard time finding a suitable terrano. I live in outer london, however I have spotted one in... LEEDS....

Didnt really want to travel 197 miles each way... although a great test for a car.
Just seeing if the finance company "approve" of this car...

heres the link if I am allowed to post. Please remove if I cannot post
(its the only one less than 8 years old on auto trader anyway)

Verdicts???
