Any one removed lower half of thermostat housing
My terrano has stripped it's thread on the long bolt of the thermostat housing on a 2.7tdi. The long bolt seems to do two jobs one is hold top hat of thermostat housing and go through the lower part and bolts to lower part of the head or timing casing and doesnt look to be a very long thread in this part. I'm gonna need new gasket etc. And gonna helicoil or cut a bigger thread in this lower engine piece as looks to have been bodged a bit before. Just wondering if this is possible before I start stripping it down

A quick note on Helicoils, when used correctly with the helicoil tap, the strength of the fixing in aluminium will be much greater than the Aluminium it'self.
Ideal for fixings in Aluminium, that are likely to be dismantled a lot too

Hi I did mine last year because the top part was cracked and leaking and when I tried to reassemble it the long bolt appeared to be stripped and didn't screw in, when I took the lower part off ready to re-tap the offending hole I actually found that it was just full of junk and silicone, so I cleaned it all out and hey presto it went in as it was meant too....
Hope that helps? |
