I use to go to Lancelin with my mate with his Dunebuggy in the late 80's, does it still look like a one horse town?

hello folks me again, i am sorry to turn to you lot to ask for some help again but i have been searching and searching and i cant get an answer and if i cant diagnose the fault by myself i am in trouble as the mechanics here in peth cast $130 per hour and that is for a cheap one
so i reach out to you guys as i am the most useless mechanic of all time, i have a clutch issue the clutch is hydraulic as you all know and it started off as a bit of a grind as it went in to reverse, i have a noisy shaft baring but that is ok for now, but what started as a grinding to get in to revers is now a refusal to select revers and hard to get in to 1st. i can get reverse if i turn the engine off then select it and start with the clutch depressed. i have checked both master and slave and fluid levels and all are fine, the fluid is a dark grey colour so may need to change but the clutch wont seem to disengage fully so i cant select a gear, all the reading i have done refers to the pedal being low and not coming all the way up... well mine is fine, it makes a squeaky noise as it has always done but it always comes back up and depresses fully and feels fine it just does not seem to be pulling the clutch back enough even thought the slave is moving the 'what you call it' fine, can any one help me out or point me in the right direction as i am in a bit of a situation. thank you again and sorry to ask but i am at a loose end. cheers ad |

never ever be sorry for asking mate ..... thats what we are here for ... to help each other ......im not an expert on mechanics , but i believe there is a guide at the top of the gearbox a bit like a ferrari gear guide that may be the issue ..... it can stop you selecting gears ...... of course i may be wrong and im sure someone wiser than me ( everyone ) will be along shortly .

i have tried it again and the car drives but the clutch is not disengaged fully so i thing it is the clutch not the selector but i am probably wrong, it idles funny as well and pulls forward so im pretty sure it is the clutch, if it was a clutch cable i would just tighten it and that would be it but as it is hydraulic i am lost as you cant adjust them can you.... just as i need to hit the road as well bl##dy thing |

the average wage is about $20 per hour so about £10-13 an hour depending on exchange rate. if you want fast cash come to Australia lots of work and good pay. |

Clutch fluid could be a problem, as it is hygroscopic, and actually attracts water from the atmosphere, which is why it degrades so quickly when there is a leak anywhere, and also why they recommend changing it every 2 years. So that definitely needs flushing through... But to be honest, it tends to be more of an issue in Brakes where heat is concerned, rather than the clutch, which relatively runs a lot cooler and is less likely to try and turn the water to steam.
I think my first port of call for the problem would be to get under it, and have someone press the clutch while you watch the flexible pipe. On mine, the inner pipe had split, and the fluid was leaking into the gap between the pipe and the cover, and making a bubble in that rather than pressing the clutch release bearing. It still worked pretty well until it finally split the outer as well. It's a new pipe I am afraid, but not too bad or hard to fit. Another person on here had an issue where the lock nut on the master cylinder fork adjustment where it joins to the peddle. It had come loose, and had worked its way down the thread, so the peddle was not actually pushing the master cylinder in properly. Those are the easy ones I can think of... Fingers crossed it is one of those... |
