This is what is left after cutting all the corroded metal out.

Thinking about buying a 1000x200x10mm flat plate. Welding two 50x50x5 angle along the bottom to act as stiffeners. Then built two saddles out of 10mm flat plate for the gearbox mounts.

It depends on how the other side looks when I remove the corroded metal.

That is some serious corrosion you have there, re the ARB mounts if mine are bolt on then you are welcome to them as do not use ARB's on mine, also have a couple of new rear springs, ordered SWB ones instead of LWB, Rick

Rick, that is a very kind offer. Thank you.

However, I have nearly all the parts that I need apart from bolts, sealant etc. I bought most of it from Euro4x4 and had it shipped to my parents in The Netherlands. It saved on shipping cost and import duty/VAT.

Regarding major parts I only need brake callipers. Considering changing them all as they are all past their best. Also found a company locally that completely overhauls your own callipers, so might do that instead. A decision I still have to make. Depends a little bit on how much this gearbox is going to cost me as that hadn’t been budgeted for.

Well today did not really go as planned. (Does it ever?)

What should have been a quick simple procedure in hospital has resulted in me not being allowed to lift anything for the next 14 days. Whilst I will continue doing some work on the car, manhandling the gearbox on my own is out of the question.

Not really what I had in mind, especially as I am off from work for 5 days next week.

Thanks Rick. In general I have the same attitude to life.

I was hoping to get the vertical posts of our agricultural building up before the winter weather strikes. As I make the posts myself I need to have space in garage to weld them together. In addition, I need to dig 6 1m3 holes dug and filled with concrete to set the posts. As we are on clay soil this is ideally done in dry weather as the rain will only make it into a pond. Anyway, doctors orders so it is what it is.

Having some time at home has its advantages. I came across an overhaul manual of my gearbox. It seems pretty simple to pull my gearbox apart so I might give it a go myself. A company called Amayama supplies OEM Nissan parts from the UAE or Japan. They are at least 50% cheaper than the Nissan dealer in the UK and they can also supply all the gearbox parts. Only downside is a linger delivery time.

I cannot imagine your box problem is very serious, to my mind (without studying the diagram) is that something was not tightened correctly on the last rebuild and has come lose and jammed it, so hopefully a simple fix, Rick

That is what I am hoping Rick. Taking the casing off seems fairly straight forward so I may as well give it a go. Terrain Tamer do a full gearbox rebuild kit for the Patrol. However before I start pulling gears off I need to do a bit more research. Fingers crossed that it is an easy problem to solve. Got some seals and gaskets for the gearbox on order. They should be here towards the end of the month.

Spend the day on my digger today, doing some site clearance for our building. No lifting required and at least I feel that I have accomplished something. Been off work as I can’t wear an oxygen mask if the situation requires it. I absolutely hate being sick off work. Especially as I am fully mobile but can’t wear an oxygen mask due to the stitches in my nose. Not that I have ever worn an oxygen mask in anger in the last 20+ years but you just don’t know.

This is a diagram of the transmission shift control. Hopefully the problem is in this area.

Unless the synchro mesh has gone but I would expect a little bit of movement in the gearstick. It is currently stuck solid with no movement whatsoever.

Collin I had a look at the shop manual today and the top cover comes off complete with selector forks, (it is in 3 parts, you will already have removed the gear stick and cover, remove the other 2 as one) it may be however that being jammed in 3rd that that might not be so easy, if that is the case then you can try and split the two parts in order to fiddle it about, do you have the manual? it gives full strip down procedure, Rick

Rick, I had indeed seen that on a video of the Patrol gearbox. Unfortunately mine does not have a top cover. My gearbox is the FS5R30A and the FS5R50B is the one with the top cover. I have found a detailed gearbox manual on Nicoclub.com. It has all the details of how to overhaul the gearbox..
An opening top cover would have been easier but to open mine up does not seem that difficult. Remove the transfer box, remove the front part of the transmission case, remove the adapter plate, remove the retaining pin from the striking arm. Then tap the gearbox housing, the gears and shift control parts should then slide out of the housing. They are fixed on a plate to hold them all together.

Today I replaced the universal joints in the prop shafts. They were all still working fine but as the prop shafts were off the car anyway it seemed silly not to replace them.
