Well as I understand it the Mistral has a new mot and all things except the engine work well and are known because Briggies been a driving it
The other bits you mention Clivvy can fail on any car any time. Windscreen..........big deal, Briggie can fix it on his own insurance anytime. I also assume that the mistral at least had a cursory look over by the garage when the box was done. "Trust" is a wierd condition to apply to a car I'm only interested in a relatively cheap fix. If there's an engine out there that someone knows is good and costs less than 300 squid I'd like to see it. This ebay motor can be given a good thrashing to check out the engine performance and then driven on a one day insurance policy to the garage. About an hour and quarter away. The remains of the car can be sold off and the money put back into a club kitty for er, er, come back to that |

I agree to a certain extent but a £300 engine plus £400 fitting not cheap. Yes bits can go on any car but this vehicle seems to have a penchant for catastrophic failures not old age niggling faults that us diyers can fix. |

this is what i'm saying. the fix isnt going to be £300. the big expense, is labour, so we are talking AT LEAST £700. well, for a wee bit more we get a full on new car with 12 month MOT and a better chance to examine the car properly before hand. then, the mistral can be sold off as spares just as we plan, to me, theres only a few hundred quid in the difference between a repair, and a new car. when i say new, of course i mean second hand! but my point is this, even though i understand any car can have trouble, we have an opportunity to check the car, hell, pay for it checking by the AA and end up on top again. If you check that ebay ad for the Isuzu, thats the sort of thing i'm talking about, ok the cars HUGE and maybe over the top, but its an example...it can be done.
oh, just noticed Pete you said the isuzu is in Leeds..see hwo it goes, can pop over for a look. |

Bloke who worked at our place had one of those Lotus Troopers. Loved it to bits. He went all over the place in it inc off road. Used to do a 60+ mile commute each day and it never let him down.
He only got shot of it in the end because of the cost of commuting..............then changed job to about 5 mile from home |
