ive decided to attempt a keyboard replacement

, but,i have absolutely no idea how the heck the keyboard comes off, im an ex electronics engineer,so im used to most tricks by manufacturers

...but it looks far too fiddly for me,ive tried looking on you tube etc , but none of the lappys look like mine (pictured below).....has anyone a clue as to how its removed ( without a big hammer lol )

hi Peter, sorry been snowed under so far this weekend with work.

ther ewill one or two screws underneath, in line with the keyboard. Possibly indicated by a small "keyboard" mark. Remove those, then, turn the laptop round and study the outer edges of the keyboard, there will probably be two or three small black tabs, holding the keyboard down. Flick them back with a screw driver and the keyboard will pop up. Dont pull the keyboard as you do this, as it is attached by a ribbon cable to a conenctor on the main board. Unclip the connector, remove keyboard, and install new one and reverse.

Im out all day tomorrow too, so wont be able to help im afraid, sorry!

Not sure with an Advent lappy as I haven't pulled one of those apart recently, but quite a few makers have a plastic trim panel running along the top of the keyboard that helps hold it down. This needs to be prised off carefully if it has one.

I took my HP apart just so i could have a look inside it. All went well and it still works. Nothing to em really, its just PC world will have you think you need a degree to do owt with em so you keep taking them to them to fix.

well,ive had this flippin thing upside down,and everyway possible ,and im baffled as to how the keyboard comes out ,i can see the screws underneath ,but none are marked keyboard, there must be a cover holding the keyboard down ,im going to admit defeat on this and take it to the local pooter shop i think

Glad to hear there's a fixer on the way, sounds like your keyboard has definitely come to the end of its life! Guess you'll have to wear out the home key followed by pgdn until Clivvy can do the swap.

Being at IT tech means I can help out with this sort of thing, about the only way I can repay the help I've already had from everyone here.
