I'd second that - if you're looking for fairly new, go for the Blue Motion version - incredible fuel consumption - I had a 1.9TDI Passat Blue Motion Estate company car last year just before I retired, regularly gave 38-43 mpg fully loaded with tools and spares (and company cars have only two positions for the loud pedal, stopped and floored!)

how about a little fiat punto 1.2 60 as these are quite eco and cheap

my farther in law has been using one to got to and from work been quite relaible

think he is just about about to buy an a4 so one could be had quite cheap
