interesting mod there Alex, not sure how it would stand up to extreme stresses, but lots on here have lifted their bodies by 2 inches and do not recall them needing to do this kind of mod, so what gives? we know that your front shocks (the originals) are different to pre 99, and your rear brakes are as well so what other surprises do the later models have, Rick

Yes tis a bit different, the techs at my work still want me to get hold of 2 donuts off the terranos so they can do a proper mod, they have called this a temp fix.

Does make you wonder what the different models have lurking?

I just like to say that you were F'kin lucky you didn't take yourself/your passengers or others out mate. I've just come back from Norfolk with my family at around 60 to 70 mph and if it had happened to me then, well I'd hate to think what would have happened

That must have been a wake up call for you.

Nothing to "wake up" about really, it was an unfortunate incident which I was obviously not expecting otherwise I would have done something about it.

These things happen from time to time, just lucky it picked the right spot.

Had I known there was an underlying issue then it would have been tackled.

I think people only see me post quick mods on here and assume its a bodge when infact a lot more goes on "behind the scenes" if you catch my drift.

having looked at you pic in post 26, you seem to be missing a very important part, ie the safety bracket, if the rubber splits as it is you will loose all steering, with the safety bracket in place you will at least retain some steering if a little slack, so I have to ask did you remove it or was it not there before???????????? Rick

Been meaning to ask, yep we actually took it all off, looked at it, all the jag techs were like "what is this supposed to do" systems must be different.

Of course as we are dismantling it again anyway they made sure we held on to it

No Mr Briggie sir, you have the wrong end of the stick, the bracket was only removed Saturday (after the steering came off)

The techs here still think its a stone guard more than anything?? its only attahced to two bolts.. doesent hold it together?

Yeah here we go, have a zoom on this picture, It may stop it falling to pieces all together but the car would be far from driveable if the bolts had come out anyway, and frankly I wouldnt be suprised if it would just fall out anyway if it came off.

That picture of the bracket looks as if the rubber shears, the metal bit will still keep the steering together, although sloppy, you would still have some steering.

Can't see exactly, but does the bent up bits stay on the shaft end?

The bent up bit it is going towards the lower column, the bit its bolted to is the upper column

Just resurrecting this thread for Banshee who is planning his body lift soon.

Banshee mate, you can see the spines bit coming off the steering box, see the groove dug out in the splined arm, the knuckle/joint must do up over this, that way it is impossible for it to slip or come off

We didn't realise at the time but mine was sitting past this

Also a pic of the mod on end of page two for you.
