The chassis on the Patrol in the link above looks a bit crusty. From the photo’s further down the page it looks like it has quite some rust. The be fair to the dealer, they do mention that in their advert.

I reckon it's just a good layer of surface rust, sills look worse to me, however I have naff all experience with patrols, unlike yourself.

Could be, but unfortunately there is no photo of the chassis close to the tow bar. The Patrol chassis seems to be more susceptible to rust behind the rear axle. When I bought mine, you could stick a finger through the metal behind the axle.

Bought a secondhand chassis, cleaned it an painted it meticulously. Every year the inside gets treated with Dinitrol and still had a rusthole in it in 2018.

Not saying that it couldn’t be a surface rust layer but if anybody is interested in buying it then please check the chassis.

I would still be stuck under a patrol body and breeze blocks
