Kitchens aren't my thing, I do commercial and schools, but I understand that putting the fan/motor in the airstream is not good practice due to grease/cleanliness and longevity. I guess that if there is sufficient filtration, there won't be a problem. I'm not too sure what the regs are though.

The fan we used was a spare 500mm Flakt Woods axial jobbie, but it seems it is not powerful enough as they are getting canopy over spill, so now the hunt is on for a reasonably priced more powerful replacement, but as they can function the pressure is off so more time to track a suitable unit down, Sunday pm I had a call from another eating house that their walk in freezer was at only -2 C so popped in and diagnosed bad compressor, it was hot but not running and tripping out on it's internal safety device, tried some so called 24/7 refrige people but no answers, called again Mon am, those that answered said anything from 2 to 6 weeks, I gave them a small chest freezer left over from Bears but could do no more, Mon pm I was free having completed a job early, so went down to have a further look at about 3pm not being too hopeful, anyway pulled the wire off the compressor and tested it with a meter and seemed OK so next pulled the two capacitors and gave those a quick check with my rather ancient capacitance meter and they both read bad, so off to Deeprose in Hastings to have this confirmed and return with two nice new ones and lo and behold it is up and running, but sadly not before they had lost a large portion of their stock, I have been telling people with big freezers that they need some back up for emergency's just like this and also for running repairs that can sometimes take a few hours to do, do they listen! of course not, such is my life, Rick

Further to the walk in freezer, the repair only lasted a day, new capacitors fried, so motor is the real culprit, new one fitted yesterday, vac'd it down and recharged it with 1.1Kg 404, called in today as a follow up and got the thumbs up from the staff, seems it is a lot quieter than the old one, I will be cutting the top off of the compressor removed to find out why it failed, Rick

There Rick! That's why you are a fountain of knowledge. Most folk would just bin the old one and move on. You are operating on the old one to find out why it failed.

Pic not very clear but winding ties have melted/broke, so it has got hot but why, the windings show no sign of short?

Aim to get stuck and be completely self sufficient in extraction, love getting muddy, 2ft deep is good but rare.
