This is what I have fitted to my 2004. It's bigger than the original one and needed to have the side clampdown rim trimmed slightly but just about fits. 4 year guarantee.

Oh, I didn't need to change anything apart from reroute the negative slightly to relieve a bit of stress. Thought that this was the normal way round to be honest? Just for accuracy, my + terminal faces forward and is towards the centre of the car.

My terminals are nearest the bulkhead. So who is right?

Mine are on the back of the battery, nearer the fire wall, and the positive is engine side.

Perhaps mine was the other way around on the original battery? I really can't remember now but I certainly didn't do anything any more difficult than a bit of wiggling when I fitted this one. Oh, and cut a bit out of the clamp rim on the engine side. This battery came off my dead Mercedes W210.

I have a Bosche battery with terminals at the back of the battery, + at the righthand side of the batter which is nearest the engine. Same orientation for my 05 plate just a different brand of battery.
Nothing needed resetting on my 96 model but for some reason I got a buzzer when the ignition was turned off but after the doors had been locked and unlocked first time it didn't buzz again. |

Had some time this morning, so went to the motor factors and picked up a new battery. Platinum 250e - CCA 770 - 90Ah for £82
Got back home and removed the old battery, a 644? I mentioned this to the guy at the factors and he said that was a commercial battery The 644 was about three inches longer than the 250e, was CCA 700 and had to have a made up bracket to hold it as it had no lugs on the bottom sides. Knowing who the Terrano came from the 644 was probably a battery he had kicking around somewhere, but when it was MOT'd it failed on an insecure battery and the garage charged him to make up a bracket. So he saved a bit on a battery, but lost it on the MOT fail. So I am back to having the battery secured via the bottom plate with two bolts... well not quite true, I need another bolt as the garage welded some rod on one of the the original bolts I'll have to keep an eye out for a bolt, it looks the same as the ones that hold the running boards on |
