Will PM you Rick

Had my last truck 3 years and only checked the oil twice and never did change it.

If it was a car i wanted to keep (like my current one is) I will do oil and filter every 6000miles or 6 months, whichever comes first. Engine will last forever if you do that.
Had a Cabstar with a 2.7TD engine with above service interval. Did 250k in that and engine was spotless. If I had sprayed the used oil onto the bodywork every time i changed it I would still have it. As it was the truck dissolved from under me!

I won't use 5w30 I like something a bit thicker & can handle more heat, I might plod around in my T2 but will be getting a caravan so engine temps will go up a bit & the old boy racer in me comes out now & again & I can get the turbo's on these engines starting to glow

Should I worry? I have the odd moment, spanked her earlier and killed a racer behind me

Someone was mentioning letting the truck idle after a good burn up to cool the turbo or some such?

So to clarify 2004+ is 5w30

As it happens this i what I have in the boot if I ever need a drop, although it seems the old girl hadn't burnt any oil as of yet. And if I'm honest i haven't done an oil change . (Think its about the only thing i haven't changed yet )

Letting the engine tick over for a few mins after a long run or opening it up gives the turbo time to cool down which helps prolong the life of the turbo plus it stops the risk of the oil trapped inside the turbo boiling when the engine is switched off. TBH I got into a habit of doing this years ago when I had my last T2 even just short runs I let the engine tick over for a bit, but after some very hard driving up to the Scottish Boarders to see a mate & old forum member I had to let it tick over for 10 mins & opened the bonnet up due to the under bonnet temps

Really!? Not too excessive?

I take it even 20/30 secs will cool it a little?

But the engines in the later ones are the same as the earlier TDI's so if 10w40 was good enough for my old 1999 engine & Nissan recommended it or even 15w40 then it's good enough for this engine

I put 10w40 in my 3.0, the book states it can take thinner oils, but I'll stick with 10w40
