If the insurance pays out for your caravan,It belongs to them.
I don't think you have a legal right to a "Buy back price"Although most insurance companies offer this option at their discretion.

It may be worth trying to telephoning the company and try to speak to some at the top(Good luck with that one). This may be of interest, most likely you have seen it.

I guess you are right, but I really do not understand why you are not allowed to keep your own property when they write it off... If they had repaired it, they would be paying out the money, and I get to keep it, but this way, I not only loose a lot of money, as they are not paying out what it would cost to purchase a replacement, but they also loose out on my bits on the van.

found that earlier, and have only just finished reading through it... a bit of an epic.

What is interesting, is basically you can not apply car write off rules to trailer ones, and since CRIS are not a legal or government body, and only apply to a small minority of the trailers on the road, the CAT status is actually immaterial, and just an "On the Books" thing for the insurance company. Personally, I do not give a monkey's about CRIS writing it off of their books, as I would not be repairing it anyway.

I think that as they have told me it is a CAT B, and therefore in their own words, can not be repaired, it does not matter if I leave it in a messy state inside and just take all my bits off, just leaving any holes as is.... After all, a few extra holes here ant there are not going to make any difference to it's scrap value, just as long as I do not take out any of the main fittings, like heating, cooker, fridge, etc.

I actually think I would have been better off, not being insured on the caravan, and just going straight to her company with the claim for a replacement.

Your caravan is going straight to the scrappers. If it was me I would strip everything. Fridge, cooker, water pumps, leisure battery. I'd swap the wheels for crap ones....

We do have a letter from the insurance company saying we are not allowed to remove fixtures and fittings, otherwise I would..

Wheels, luckily, I had not got around to replacing them with nice ones, so they are just the old steel ones that have been repainted with hamerite... got good tyres though...

It is your property - they cannot tell you what to do with it - get legal advise ASAP as I suggested sometime ago.

I will go down that route if I have to, but no point in wasting money on that until we hit the end of the line...

I just received this... apparently this is the excuse of the lady that hit me...

Post Caravan or not Caravan

All the bits which are not standard caravan spares are yours. My dad's caravan ended up in a shop window somewhere in the New Forest - long story, not dad's fault - the van was a right off. We removed all the extra bits - new radio, bin holder etc, these are on the contents side off the insurance.

Love the card.

You may already have legal cover on the policy.
