You could do something with letters, like I am going to bed.

going =3
bed = 3

This makes it more obvious and gets rid of the maths with numbers.

good night =5

Spoiler alert = 5 .... 5 is the number of loops in the numbers or letters. E.g., 0 is a loop, 9, has a loop at the top, and 8 has 2 loops.

An interesting point.
You will notice that "4" was left out of the original posting, because it depends if your test criteria is based on enclosed circles, or enclosed shapes like 4, but also the font for 4, can also be written without any bits enclosed.

Still a good post, not a good idea to have late at night, makes your brain too active.

Like you say 4, is a bad one, but, "g" would be the same, as in some font's it has a loop at the top and bottom.

I like the "Insomniac questions", anything that makes the brain work... The other one is the "26 L in the A" type ones, some of those are so annoying.

i done it this way

How many enclosed circles are there in the number 8?there are 2
How many enclosed circles are there in 6 or 9 or 0 ?only one.
How many in 1, 2, 3, 5 etc. none so they score zero

Add up the scores for the numbers... 8080 = 6 enclosed circles...
