I have been out with the Caravan a few days every month so far this year and going to Wirral country park next weekend (not to far) but have trips planned for Dorset and Devon and not forgetting the Royal welsh show and Woodstock in Sept , which will add up to a hell of a lot of diesel, but what else do you do I try not to run around in it unecessery, we do have a pug 306 which I run 50/50 diesel and pure veg oil, which runs fine and has done for a couple of years now but even veg oil has nearly doubled in 2yrs.
So to sum up, not curtailed my hols so far but I am more aware of how far I will be going in future with the van and will keep speeds to 50mph to conserve fuel, but will never get rid of the terrano or the van.

Default diesel prices and your holidays

hi gang.
just got back from IOW this afternoon. with the DiscoDuck and tin tent.
7 nights stay just over 600 miles in total including 278 miles on the island.
fuel price ranged from £1.20.9 @ Tesco to £1.30.9 @ an independent.
we spent very little apart from food (chips) and parking ticket which let us park in any of the carparks for £20 for 4 days.
plenty of walks along the beach with the dogs.
drove Tennison Trail from Carrisbrooke end for a change .
done a video will edit and then put a link up.
drove most of the BOATS and got plenty of scratches to T Cut out :? :P
there were more new ish caravettes than anything else on site .
then a few caravans and tents arrived last night and this morning .
BUT THE WHOLE OF IOW SEEMED QUIET TO US COMPARED TO THE LAST 3 YRS WE HAVE BEEN ALTHOUGH AT DIFFERENT TIMES OF THE YEAR.
Traffic on M27 and M40 today were solid by dinner time 5.6 mile tail backs. lots of caravans and caravettes going somewhere .so still a bit of money around.

well took a sharp breath and had day trip to east coast yesterday, skegness n mablethorpe. filled up at home, morrisons 123.9 for derv. out there saw it at 135 independent rix garages. ouch.

on radio news talk of more drive offs, garages getting tyre spike systems fitted.

good points about from vehicle theft. perhaps will get locking cap to go with remote release flap. also doesnt help our gauge stays live with ignition off.

wont stop me cos vanning is in blood and need an all weather tug. the tdi's mpg was roughly same as 2 litre petrol estate it replaced anyway. might see about driving slower though 60 feels so right with van on...

Noticed this news article the other day in relation to the forecourt device which rbrt mentioned above: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/l...re/4224358.stm

I think I saw somewhere else that the device costs around £10k to install. Wonder will the garages cover this cost by increasing prices even more????

A bit late I know but if you are interested I have just returned from 6 week towing holiday in France and Italy. Nissan Terrano 2.7TDI (2005) and Abbey GTS 420 caravan (1500KG) covered 4354 miles in total. We spent £1068 on fuel and £181 on road tolls. Average consumption was 23mpg. Fuel is 1.47 Euros per litre if purchased in Carrefour or Leclerc hypermarkets.
I tried to keep my spedd to 60 mph but it went to 70/75 when passing trucks on the autoroutes.
Perhaps this may be useful to anyone going off now on hols.
