really sorry to hear this mate, but I agree with checking if its been towed. Example, my mate came to see us a few months back, parked his van up on a hill down a neighbouring street. VERY quiet where we live. Go's out to get the van...no van.

what happened? Van handbrake failed a bit, so car sort of rolled back a bit and nudged another van parked clsoe by-NO DAMAGE. COCK head who owns the van rings the police, police turn up, tow the van away. This guy had CCTV, so knew my mate had walked off up the road. The cock was some sort of barrister or ex barister or somethign i dunno, point is, van got towed away and my mate spent all night searching, worrying that he was going to lose his job etc, and the friggin police had it.

In most areas now they deal with parking and tow aways or sub contract it out

No, it hasn't got an alarm, and no, I didn't leave the keys in it!
Sorry to hear about this, if my wife had done this, I would say are you sure you parked it there, so I won't insult you by asking the question.

It might be worth looking at the location in daylight, and look for any signs that say, limit the hours of parking.
This is happening a lot near railway stations and the like to stop people taking up customer parking spaces.

Like all my projects, I was thinking of making an Anti-Hijack alarm, it will work as follows, start the car, leave the engine running, keys in ignition, a mild mannered pedestrian, sees the vehicle as a free lift, so drives off, gets about half a mile away ( You don't want this guy to come and ask you to get it started for him do you?) and ....... engine shuts down, won't start..
Might be something I could sell on ebay... thoughts please..

Best regards, Rustic

Hi, I had an old k reg Disco stolen Feb last year, parked it the same as you in public view but not outside someones house as I did not want to annoy anyone. Police said wait 24 hrs and then ring them and they would make a report as stolen. Disco nether recovered. Police did nothing, I got a letter saying case closed 48 hrs after it was reported stolen. Car was worth something to me as I had had it 12 years and kept records of all the servicing that I did and reciept etc. Police said they are targeting old 4x4 that were with out good security eg electronic key identification and then, shipping them abroad. Sorry about your car and I hope you get it back.

On a similar train of thought, some vehicles where fitted with a one way valve in the brake hydraulics. Had a combination type lock on it to release it to normal 2 way operation.
So the theory goes, get down the road as far as the nearest junction BRAKE and you stay there.

Thanks all. Yes, insured - and this year for some reason I decided to insure my no claims too, so at least I won't lose that.

Getting to work. I'll have to ride all the way, all of the days. Usually I ride 3 out of 4 and car/train the other 1. Now I'll have to ride all four. I have got a folding bike, but it folds quite big and I'm not sure I'd get on the train with it.

The problem will come when the lane between me and work/the train station is icy, it's like a skating rink, narrow, bendy, high hedges, no pavement or verge and everyone treats it like a race track.

So, there's a petrol auto for sale... I like diesel and manual, although I think the petrols are more powerful. The Handbook gives the auto doing MORE mpg than the manual! At 56 constant the Handbook reckons 22mpg for the manual and 25mpg for the auto. If I can find the torque figures comparing diesel to petrol I might go for the petrol. If I ever get this car back I could make it a proper offroader and go out to play in it... (cash permitting obviously).

PS I keep disappearing because my computer at home says it can't find the server for this site. Annoying, I need to speak to IT at work to see if they have any ideas.

Check with Bat21....there are a couple of technical anomalies that might be related to your ISP, I can't recall cos I never had 'em...but he has the fix...just tell him you want your tenner back and he'll be online like a rat up a drainpipe LMAO!

Re your NCD insurance, sadly it doesn't work that way as I understand it. because you have a claim, they stick you in a higher risk bracket so that the base premium goes up - your discount %age against it remains the same but of course its a higher £ number.....ask them and see what they say....

That is incredibly bad advice. In fact presuming you haven't misunderstood them or there's not somthing we don't know about, its disgraceful.

If anyone else finds themselves in a similar unfortunate situation, DO NOT be fobbed off with a phone back later.
