As opposed to slating the Isuzu trooper or bighorn may I suggest something slightly different. How about some ideas on what models are worth keeping an eye out for and what ones to be avoided and what standard spec's are good to have on particular models.
There are a lot of the troopers or bighorns out there and often at good prices and it would be good to know what one's might be a good buy and which to avoid. (I have been told avoid the 2000 onwards 3.0ltr because of engine design fault). |

Trouble is I only know a bit about Terranos I've seen lots of other trucks in action on lanes and pay n play sites thiough
Landie 90 seems the best off road really BUT costs blinking loads to get there The terrano needs only a small amount of cash to make it performwell off road. Nissan Patrol swb mmm now that's the boyo, big v8 n some lpg and a large wallet, yes please santa |

another trooper tho i dont know mine was lower than the monty that came out with us and all he had done was stick 265 75 16 tyres on standard they will happily accept 265 75 16/15 with out it rubbing. danielj trooper buying wise, avoid the 3.0 like the plague due to gm's part in sorting out the injection side of things their are many variations of the trooper, their is no trooper the same due to the availability of the options, they all tend to be different tbh you can get a lsd or a open diff isuzu as that was an option on all models try to pick up one with the winter pack (has twin bats) as this has the ceramic heater which on cold mornings is a great feature the biggest problem with troopers is the rot (unless you go for the import) tends to go on the rear subframe bighorns have a few spec differences lotus handling pack Irmscher pack lotus has 2 verions the se and the ls, se is slightly more powerful and had a few extra option like electric leather seats, both have stiffer suspension the Irmscher has heated recaro seats, side steps and tends to be the prettier of the lot their are other variations Isuzu Trooper, Isuzu Trooper II , Caribe 442, Acura SLX, Chevrolet Trooper, Subaru Bighorn, Honda Horizon, Opel/Vauxhall Monterey, Holden Jackaroo, and Holden Monterey in the world of modding their is alot more parts off the shelf for the isuzu than the nissan's but just remeber its the same as anything else just keep your wits about you |

isuzu
I had a frontera with a isuzu based engine, no cam belt - bonus
i immersed it in water up to the windscreen flopped it on its side in the devils punch bowl - still kept going loved that motor but got offered a deal on a 3.9 ES disco - that i ended up giving away with 11 month MOT and 3 months tax(on 1 condition - that it never darkens my door again) I like the isuzu's but generally out of my price range as were the vauxhall monterey Kbeki - u enjoy it mate what ever flicks your switch paulp |

@ the end of the day it depends how & what angle the person is coming from when commenting... On Road... Off Road... Both... Towing...
This is my break down... (factory fitted diesels) Defender 90 is the best off roader FACT Nissan Patrol & Toyota Landcruiser for Green Laning & Over Landing (European) Terrano / Maverick SWB is the best of the Japs closely followed by the Pajeros / Shoguns Most 90's seem to need lockers where as the Nissans dont... From standard, this in my eyes is what you need to do to make them a good all rounder... 90 :- 2" Body & Chassis lift, mud tyres & lockers Terrano :- 2" Chassis lift, mud tyres DISCO :- FRONT & REAR WINCH AS IT ALWAYS GETS STUCK OR BREAKS DOWN |

no not the cherry lol tbh i cant see any difference to the part time 4x4's offered by the japs only the person behind the wheel they all pretty much have the same type of running gear what difference is their apart from the engine ? the problem is the japs have the ifs and that is less than worthless off road but on the road is great addition disagree with the mods on that one the 90 dont need a 2" lift to go where a t2 will go i have a mate with a 2010 90 swb with diff lock and it is alot taller than the t2 standard oh and the best off roader is a minimog |

Kbekl -According to the stats site you posted in the 'other thread' the terrrano and your Izuzu have the same ground clearance!
And on a eight bridge i bet yours is more than a 100k heavier than mine for what it's worth i loike troopers, i have owned several. The one let down they had (at tthe time) was the lack of an rear LSD on virtualy all, some did have it but not many. Other than taht the 3.1 is just too big and cumbersome for what i used my t2 for and a daily basis. I only got into the 'tit for tat' as it seeemed that every thread was getting bogged down in how lovely troopers are. I don't like all this comparing 'mine's bigger than yours' it's silly, and the best that can come out of an acctual contest is that no one gets hurt But mine is still quicker |

odd i know its not alot but mine is 210mm and the t2 tdi is 195mm
defo more diff clearance tho with the trooper coming with 245/75/16 tyres as standard and the mav/t2 235/75/16 ok i will race you first one to 105mph wins (satnav speed) i still maintain that the horn is quicker with more power and torq plus the slightly wider tyre means more road contact oddly i havnt come across a trooper with out lsd i know they do have a few that didnt opt for it in real life mate i dont do mine s bigger than yours, in a forum based situation it is just a bit of fun unless it is a reliability then i will rip a landy owner, most of the members of my response team have landy's it is fun when they question your ability to go off road when you come back with "at least mine will go home under its own power" remark 90% of off road driving is the person behind the wheel and the 10% left is if you have 4wd, even the mighty t2 is pap when trying to off road in 2wd i know i have been their |

you can have the best car in the world and it doesnt mean anything , its down to the driver ..... if bighorns are so good will someone explain to me why everyone doesnt have one ? .. and why all the other manufacturers of 4wd vehicles havent gone bust due to the amazing popularity of the isuzu trooper/bighorn ?
