Got the NS done today, as yesterday a bit of a delay, yesterday was air compressor playing about, today ran out of 0.8 wire, had a roll 25kg roll of 0.6 but no 0.6 tips so had to get some 0.8 wire.
This is the NS angle tacked, note the absence of the bump stop shoe, it got in the way of G cramp on the OS

And the outside, tomorrow reassemble the axle and exhaust, then got a hole in the OS inner wing that he has put on the ticket but it is not a fail point but I really do not want to argue with him, he says because near the brake servo, but that is on the bulkhead, also got the inner cill bits to do, Rick

What thickness of metal are you using? Looks about 3 or 4mm?

I do not mind vertical or upside welding if I am comfortable and can see the weld pool properly, but inside the chassis with all the obstructions it is near on impossible many times the only view point is from behind the torch so it is guess welding, if it sounds good then it may be OK but often it is a good weld but not in the right place, so yes I hate welding motors, Rick

Yep, can't see past the nozzle and ends up in the wrong place, I've done some of my best welds in the wrong places

Just been looking back on old pics and this motor was the very same that we visited Jonela in France in 2014 and in all that time it had very little go wrong, bearing in mind I purchased the truck a while earlier for no more than £250 as an MOT fail motor, I did all the repairs needed at the time plus loads underseal etc so yes they can be kept going, Rick

That’s great news Rick.
Sadly my old green project truck will be going to the breakers in a few weeks. It failed January last year and my son has made half arsed attempts at working on it. So unfortunately come the Easter holidays I shall be putting the wheels back on and dropping it back down to the floor and the. Refitting the interior and try putting it up for sale before getting a breakers yard to collect it.a pity really but I need to draw a line under it. |
