The hand guns were all in the UK before some w****r decided to go on a mission in Dunblane, how many times were the police warned about him?

So we lost access to them.

The assault rifles and the machine gun was The Strip Gun Club in Las Vegas. We go every few years. Next on my list is the Barrett .50 and the Browning .50 machine gun. I'm hoping to go next year for my 50th, I may try "The Buffet" package, ten different weapons, including the above two and LOTS of ammo. A mere $1,995. You're only 50 once.

It's funny you say that. They reckon the reason people drive more considerately in the US is you don't know what they've got under the front seat.

On my last trip to the USA we were supposed to go the range in Las Vegas but just ran outta time!

I have a list similar to Brian's of weapon system that I've fired.... I think we might of been in the same line of work.

Didn't have time in Arizona, we went there to see the Titan 2 nuclear ICBM missile and silo (I showed them my firearms licence and they still wouldn't let me push the button) and to visit Tombstone and Boothill cemetery.

I keep the shootin' for Vegas.

Is was an awesome experience. A nine storey missile that could hit anywhere in the world within 20yards, with the power to erase twenty square miles, that could be launched in 58seconds!. They used to have sixty of them.

It's also sobering to think that this is what North Korea is trying to build.

I was raised with firearms in our house my Dad had a 0.22 rifle he mainly used short solid ammunition. He also had his Fathers old Service Revolver from the first world war as a souvenir for many years before surrendering it . I had a BSA Airsporter and a Webley Senior Air Pistol.

I would throw an empty beer can up in the air and my Dad would hit it 9 times out of 10 before it hit the ground. When I was old enough I applied for a Section 1 Firearms Certificate so I could legally use the 0.22 when we moved out into the countryside proper.

We had shooting rights on a Farm at Kirk Langley and in the grounds of Longford Hall Farm. I would go on the Rook Shoots in the woods and had a particularly good day when I shot 3 Woodcock that had landed in our back garden. I would shoot Rabbits and learnt how to skin them when they were still warm without popping the eyeballs.

Then one day when I was aged about 22 I shot a Rabbit on our back lawn at home and immediately set about skinning it. To my horror it was a Doe that was almost full term and I had three young ones among the giblets on the lawn.

All 3 little ones died within minutes and that was the last time I shot a living creature. It did not turn me into a vegetarian but if I had to kill my own meat then that would be the end of my meat eating.

After that it was targets and tin cans only. As I was a pretty good shot when I joined the Police Service I later became firearms trained for the Standard Revolver and the Snub nosed (5 round) Smith & Weson. I had to give up the Police Firearms Training when I was promoted due to the time abstraction for the rigorous training.

Nothing as glamorous as you lot but while in York over Easter I held a Short Magazine Lee-Enfield Mark III, or SMLE Mk. III. It weighed 6kg bare. Loaded and equipped with a bayonet it would weigh 7.5 to 8kg and was almost 6 ft in length!

Browning Xbolt Hunter Eclipse (laminate thumbhole stock) in .308 and a Winchester o/u 12ga here, mainly used for game shooting. Regular range practice as well.

Apart from foxes and flying vermin, everything I shoot is for the pot. No problems with feathers here
Differences between countries are nice to see: over here for example the .22 rimfire is prohibited (for game shooting), but you can have it for target shooting, on a different license. Hares can only be shot with a shotgun - although I don't shoot hares, there's not that many of them left here and they don't cause any damage. Woodcock is protected in my area (Flanders), 1 mile away (Wallonia) you can happily shoot them when the season is open.

Been getting rid of some corvids round our place this weekend.

Our annual load of swallows has returned and I have to keep the corvids at sensible levels so the chicks don't get stolen from the nests.

While I had the .22 out I remembered this thread so thought I better get a pic of it.

It has a "Rimfire Magic" semi-auto action with a fairly light trigger pull with adjustable travel, a buffered receiver which is bedded into a Hogue rubber overmould stock with a floating "Green Mountain" match barrel. Moderated and with a Hawke scope. I only use Winchester subsonic rounds and it'll put bullet on bullet at 75yds.
